I gave this a 5⭐️ because I thought the author did a great job with the writing and narrating. I have recently suffered a great loss, a grief that has left me a completely different person, and I could deeply identify with the author. I have been in shock and have had a hard time with God and what he allows. The author helped me a lot with my feelings and direction. I also think as Christians, we could do a better job understanding grief and the process. I did find hope in this audiobook and recommend it. Thanks, IVP Audiobooks via NetGalley. ...more

The narrating was excellent and I highly recommend listening to this book. It was realistic fiction that pulled back the curtain on people dealing with the raw reality of life. The plot was driven by a lot of intense emotions. I was shocked several times as the story took another sharp turn for the worst. The story revolves around a chilling mystery centered around a missing presumed-dead sister and a group that spent the 1970s at a place called “The Farm.” The narrative seamlessly weaves together past and present perspectives, and it’s filled with some surprising twists. I particularly enjoyed the setting in South Carolina, my home state, as it added a layer of authenticity to the story. The writing is great and the plot is well-crafted, making it a compelling read.

Narrated by Honor Gilles and Majid Mehdizadeh-Valoujerdy, their voices perfectly complemented the novel’s themes. Like Normal People, Things Left Unsaid delves into the intricate nuances of class and race, as well as the complexities of family and friendship. However, these similarities are superficial. The novel is a painful and beautiful exploration of love and life’s journey.
