I have more questions than answers. This was a sweet and whimsical story but because it was told through the eyes of a 10 year old, I don’t feel like I truly understand what was actually going on in the book. I need someone to explain it to me please, because I feel like this book could’ve been 4+ stars if I wasn’t so confused. ...more

TW: Pregnancy complications
* * This book was a great eye opener for me as someone who wants to have children one day. I knew there were pregnancy complications but I like how the author explained everything that was easy for someone who doesn’t know to understand. I think my thing is that the story wasn’t as full and detailed as I think it should’ve been ? To me, it came off like some of the complications could’ve been avoided which I’m sure wasn’t the case but it read like that due to the way it was worded. If the author ever decided to write a more descriptive version, I would definitely read that too! ...more

I wasn’t expecting to love this book as much as I did! The art and plot really held my attention and by the end I was begging for more ! I’m glad that I’m giving graphic novels/mangas a chance this year or else I would have missed out on the beauty that is Muted. ...more

I loved this story so much, I wish I’d have read the original before ! I saw the movie when it first came out which was when I wwaass- 12? And I think I fell asleep at some point because that was before I had a love for musicals, unfortunately. Everything about this book was beautifully done. The reason I deducted a star was really because of NetGalley. I understand Mangas are supposed to be read backwards, but for people who don’t normally read those kinds of books, having it set up weird in your app really isn’t doing you any favors. ...more

* * This was my first manga of the year and for 40 minutes I was taken on a wild and confusing ride. The story itself was compelling but the ending is what threw me off the most. It felt unfinished and anticlimactic ? Too many unanswered questions. I think my favorite part was the imagery! The close up shots gave me the creeps but that just added to my intrigue....more

This is actually one of my favorite books to read about Taylor Swift. I loved the breakdown of TS as a businesswoman over just a singer-songwriter. It went through how she got started and walked us through how each of her albums came about. I enjoyed this side of everything and now have an even bigger respect for her and what she’s been through and how she overcame it. ...more

As a fan of Taylor Swifts lyrics and how she can weave a whole story into a simple 4 min song, I had really high hopes for the breakdown of said lyrics. The book in and of itself is fairly easy to read if you’re an English major or have studied poetry. If not, you might need a dictionary or google for some of the terms used. As much as I enjoyed the breakdown, some of it seemed like a stretch ? I get that it’s the authors interpretation of the lyrics but still. I also feel like they missed out on dissecting better songs than a few of the ones that were chosen, but that’s just me....more

This was another book that I didn’t really get what I signed up for but I’m not complaining about it. I thought it was more like a self-help book and in some kind of way it was ? But it was more of a breakdown of how our minds work and why we are the way we are (I know, it’s in the title), but it was so much more than that! Honestly, reading this book made me feel so much less alone. Because it’s one thing for someone to say “I know how you feel” and it’s another thing for someone to break it down scientifically and prove that we do all go through this. It was information overload sometimes but it dumbed everything down so to speak and was easy enough to comprehend....more

If anyone knows me, they know I love LGBTQ+ romances. I loved these characters so much but I felt like something was missing ? Their love wasn’t very believable and I think that this book skipped too much for me to feel how connected they were supposed to be. * * I don’t understand how this book has such a high rating on Goodreads. I barely understood it because most of the book is just incoherent rambling. The plot is basically nonexistent and even using context clues is confusing. If you gave it over 3 stars, why? I’m just curious as to what you took from this book. What am I missing ?

FYI: on a 5-point scale I assign stars based on my assessment of what the book needs in the way of improvements: *5 Stars ~ Nothing at all. Chefs kiss. No notes. *4 Stars ~ It could use some slight adjustments here and there but pretty solid overall. *3 Stars ~ Adjustments need to be made and rewriting needs to be done. Good but could be a lot better. I read it once and don’t need to do it again. *2 Stars ~ This book needs a lot of work. Whether it be rewriting the plot, characters, style or ending. Something or everything needs to be changed. *1 Star ~ Dumpster fire....more

I’m not one to read poetry but for the new year, I wanted to try different books so I decided to start with this one. I loved the idea of anonymous love letters! * * As someone who’s part of the LGBTQ+, I’ve always known I was privileged in my family accepting me as I was from the moment I told them I wasn’t straight. After reading this book, I now realize how privileged I was to not have internalized homophobia. The people who’ve wrote the essays in this book went through awful internalized homophobia spurred on by the teaching of conversion therapy and the things they were told hurt my heart so deeply. The only issue I had with this book was in the beginning ? There’s a part that over explains what Conversion Therapy is, how to fight it and the history behind it. I thought it’d be better for the history and how to fight it portion to be at the end of the book instead of before the essays, but that’s just me. ...more

Wow, this book left a lot to unpack. You follow a seemingly normal man as he goes and kills 6 people (yeah, I know how that sounds). Each murder is brutal and detailed so if you aren’t into gore, don’t read this book. I enjoyed that this book explained why and came full circle. This was such a cute yet sad story. I should’ve expected that ending but I honestly didn’t and it made me tear up. This book is very reminiscent of Blue Sisters by Coco Mellors, so if you enjoyed that book, I’m most positive you’d enjoy this one.
