Claire is reluctantly heading back home to help her mother after a fall. Home is a place she hasn’t been interested in visiting since her sister, Natalie, went missing 22 years ago. Mom isn’t too keen on having help, so Claire soon hits the road, but not back to NYC…to the place her sister used to visit right before she disappeared.
Claire gets hired for the summer by Mitchell and stays on the property, Galloway Farm, a vineyard. Also, living nearby are Marcia, Mitchell’s wife, and Liam, their son. She locates a diary in her cabin written back in the 80’s. She shouldn’t read it, she really shouldn’t, but her nosiness gets the best of her and she devours the pages any chance she can get…as would I. Could there be any information in there that might give some answers about Natalie?
About the diary ~ we had a different narrator for those chapters, yay!, but it’s told in the 3rd, which I found a little bit odd. I never had a diary, but if I were to write in one I assume I'd be writing it in the 1st, no?
There were some draggy bits, but overall it was fine. The vineyard gave off a creepy vibe, which I liked. Some obviousness and a couple zingers kept me listening. Can’t say my pulse was pounding really at any point, but Karissa has a way with her tones that makes me feel like it should be!

Our main characters are: Georgia ~ former child star from Australia who is now an adult trying to get her career going again. Henry ~ an aspiring actor she meets after arriving in LA and they become an item. Marianna ~ runs the acting studio in a cult like way.
Since this revolves around acting it's heavy on auditions, acting classes/scenes and trying to make it in Hollywood, which makes sense and can be a snore if you could care less about this world. Since Georgia started her career very young there's references to inappropriate behavior back then. The story does do a good job of showing toxicity and jealousy in the biz.
Overall, this was fine~ish, but it definitely wasn't a thriller, just psychological fiction really. I was not on the edge of my seat at any point and the ending was pretty lackluster. I didn't really like any of the characters either.
There's a very lengthy author's note at the end that I didn't fully listen to because it was close to an hour, but it goes into the author's experience with acting.
Looks like this will only available in audio format. Narration notes: I got sent a widget 4 times, so I guess they really wanted me to listen to it ...more

Kate and her team are back investigating more brutal murders. This time it’s 21 year old men just trying to make a decent living, or were they…
I just have to wonder if Kate gets a new Explorer every time because it seems to get beat up every book, just like her. Man she takes a thrashing, but keeps on doing her best for Painter’s Mill. The whole team’s investigative skills are top notch. If my death was suspicious I'd want them on the case.
Anyway, another wonderful, brutal and action packed edition to the series.
Series notes: I think you should read them all in order because they’re great, but I suppose it’s not absolutely necessary. Each book follows a different murder, but Kate’s life is progressing.
Narration notes: A bit robotic at times, but she does well overall.

(Theo)dora (24) is spending some time at her fiance, Connor’s, family estate. This will be the first time she’s meeting them since their courtship has been short. Something seems familiar with the area, but she’s not sure what. She was adopted and has little knowledge about her past. We see through the eyes of flashbacks and nightmares of a little girl, which made the plot more intriguing.
Ahh, a rich family with secrets, not something we see that often. Bahaha, just kidding. They’re as snooty and snobby as you’d expect. Grandma really takes the cake and ices it with a triple layer of animosity.
We’ve get an isolated woods, no cell service, locked ‘room’ feel, which worked really well as Theo tried to piece together her nightmares.
Overall, a solid thriller with secrets that were secretive and twists that were twistable.
Narration notes: She does a fabulous job, as usual.

This is one that I don't really want to say too much. The plot is fascinatingly clever and well thought out.
Our main characters are Stephanie & Jasmine . We, also, hear from Stephanie's coworkers, Jasmine's boyfriend and friends, and a man named, Trent, which help move the story along to it's shocking conclusion.
Overall, this was a really solid and impressive debut. There was some repetitiveness and I didn't care for the epilogue, but it was fast paced and I was engaged entirely. You'll want to add this one to your TBR for sure.
Narration notes: Holy guacamole ~ 10 narrators!! They all did a fabulous job. Andrew Eiden, Dylan Fitzpatrick, Fred Berman, Gail Shalan, Hillary Huber, Jennifer Pickens, John Pirhalla, Kimberly M. Wetherell, Kirby Heyborne, Tim Campbell
Grady & Abby A year after Abby disappears, Grady and his faithful dog, Colombo, are off to Scotland to try to write his next bestseller. Then he starts getting weird things delivered to him, and thinks he sees Abby. Is he going crazy or could Abby be on this picturesque island, too?
The locked room (island) is well done. No phones, a bunch of weird islanders and the ferry rarely visiting gave it a creepy vibe.
The prologue was super intriguing and the twist was twistable, but I can't say I was blown away. It's quite the slow burn as the author really built up the suspense making us wait for ages. It did do a pretty good job of keeping me engaged, though. Perhaps because it was due to the well done audio version. Even though I do seem to be a bit of an outlier I'm sure this one will be a big hit.
Side note ~ Colombo is safe throughout!
Narration notes: 2, woo hoo! They did great. I love when there are added side effects when they are on the phone to make it sound like they really are on the phone. Appreciate the extra pizzazz.

Kate is off to her ex-fiance's wedding when she runs into her crush Jake, literally slams right into him as she makes a running leap onto the boat before it leaves the dock. Bet that would have been a hoot to see ~ I know, I’m awful.
Kate is a bestselling author of murder mysteries with the main character named Loretta. When certain things starting happening that resonate with her books the fingers are pointed at her. Loretta's name pops up quite often and it took a hot minute to realize Kate was pretending to be in Loretta's head in order to solve the mystery. She and Jake work to clear her name, and that's not the only thing they work on, wink wink.
There are quite a few unlikable suspects and a lot going on, but I enjoyed the sleuthing and secret passages found along the way.
Overall, this was a fun time with some pretty good banter, too.
Narration notes: Top notch job! She really did all of the different character voices flawlessly. She even did a nice Australian accent for a man.

Juliana (35) & Ben (37) don’t get off on the right foot her first day on the job. She is back in the workforce due to her husband, Jason’s, untimely death. But as a single parent now her top priority are her two girls, so when the school calls she has no choice but to leave early and miss an important meeting with Ben. The next day she overhears him complaining about her and flash forward 2 years and she’s still mad.
Oh boy, the sexual tension was on point, which is to be expected with enemies to lovers. I liked that it was just a workplace romance and not a boss/employee type of situation. Juliana was a rock star of an employee. They share a bff, Asia, who also works with them. She's put in the middle sometimes, but she handles it well.
Regarding the dead hub ~ I do feel like the grief was handled well and I felt bad for her and the kids, obviously, but I was tired of hearing about him over and over and over again after a while. Ben was pretty great in that aspect and didn't mind her talking about him, so I liked that. He was pretty great all around and I do wish we had a few chapters with his POV.
Overall, this was mostly great for a debut, except for the 3rd act that I absolutely hated, but could also maybe see a teeny tiny bit, like pin prick size, of why it was done. Still could have gone without it, though. I probably could have rated this higher had it not been for it.
Narration notes: She did great. She deepened her tone for the men almost convincingly.

Frank and daughter, Maggie, had a falling out and haven’t spoken in 3 years. Now she’s getting married to a man named Aiden and wants Frank there. He jumps at the chance to see his baby girl again. With his sister, Tammy, and her foster daughter, Abigail, who gets on his nerves more often than not, in tow they’re off to New Hampshire for a 3 day affair.
Once they get to the lavish estate of The Gardners he’s eager to reconnect with Maggie and get to know everything about the family she is marrying into. But he soon discovers this family has secrets. And then there is a murder, and don’t forget the missing girl that Aiden was involved with before he met Maggie.
Overall, I did not find it to be the edge of the seat thriller the blurb promises. I was hardly gripped as Frank was yapping away nonstop. He did provide some comic relief once in a while, so that was nice. There are a bunch of daddy long legs to give you a little creep factor. I didn't hate it, it was just so slow moving for me because I kept waiting for a twist or something. Not sure what’s up with that ending either.

Phoebe is our solo traveler that has gone missing. Katy is searching for Phoebe. Beth/Lily has escaped an abusive relationship and is along for the ride to help find Phoebe. Wyatt is a 15 year old boy whose mother is missing.
With a bit of a confusing start it took me a hot minute to get things straight. After that it was smooth sailing with a steady pace as we searched for answers about Phoebe. We get chapters with her blog posts to help lead us on the trail. And then we slowly learn how Wyatt fits into the story.
Overall, it does a good job of giving off a dangerous and an atmospheric vibe. I don’t know about you, but I'm a big scaredy pants and not a solo traveler type at all. It certainly makes me want to visit Australia one day though. While I wasn’t expecting the main twist, it didn’t fully wow me because I've read it a couple times lately. All in all I'd recommend it.
Narration notes: Is she Australian or American? It’s hard to tell because she did both well.
There’s an author’s note stating how this book came about and an interview with author Sally Hepworth at the end.

June (27) & Levi were broken up with publicly and decide to fake date after not seeing each other for 10 years.
I don't mind fake dating at all, but only when it's for the benefit of career purposes or something to that nature. I am absolutely not down with it when it's up in the air that one of them might or might not want to get back with their ex. Which is what happens for most of the book. That's really mean and I don't like meanness. Therefore I did not like them together at all, not one bit. I would've preferred they just stay friends who like to compete with each other.
Usually I like dual POV, but I'm happy we didn't have Levi's because it probably would've made me dislike him more.
So with that said I do think it was written well for what the author was trying to do. Also, really enjoyed June's friendship with Matteo, her brother's fiance. But, overall, I was not a fan.

I listened with my daughter while we were on a road trip. It's a good thing my dog was breathing in my ear to keep me awake because I was a bit bored at times and my daughter zonked out after 16 minutes, so I was on my own.
I am a big fan of true crime and serial killer stories, but this felt really long and drawn out because a good portion of it was about Detective Mager's backstory. I'm sorry, but I'm not interested in her life and how she first shot a gun at 9 years old. She'd get all the props for what she accomplished from me if this was a memoir, but it's not. I'm more interested in the background of the killer and why they did what they did. Personal preference perhaps. Now don't get me wrong she did a great job bringing him down, but this just wasn't what I was expecting.
So overall, it was fine as an investigative look at what goes on behind the scenes, but don't go into this one expecting there to be a lot of action on the actual killings.
Narration notes: Well, on a whole she did okay, but I could have went for a little more emotion when she was talking about finding a body.

He thought he found that with Molly when they were in high school, but she left him and broke his heart. Now they're at their 15 year reunion and the attraction is still there. Can they easily find their way back to each other?
Oh Seth I felt so bad for him. He wears his heart on his sleeve and just wants someone to love him forever. He keeps getting his heart broken and his emotions clearly came through on the page, or in my ears rather.
Eh with Molly. I never really warmed up to her on the romance front, but she was a great friend to her bff's.
Overall, this is fine as a debut. There were enough funny bits to keep me entertained, but I just felt like so much time was wasted.
Side note ~ there are a lot of emails and text messages, which I wouldn't have minded if I was reading it, but to hear all the info following 'to..., from..., date..., time..., subject...' over and over and over again annoyed me.
Narration notes: They both did fine. Tim still needs to work on his lady voice.

Ryan was clonked on the noggin 5 years ago and girlfriend, Ali, was missing when he woke up. Now he’s in Europe with his law school friends when he sees someone that brings back memories from that horrible night.
Michael is an accountant who got involved with a very dangerous man. I wasn’t sure how his storyline was going to fit in, but I was quite pleased with how it did. Looking back now I'm like duh.
Poppy is the deputy sheriff looking for answers when Ali’s car is found in the lake with 2 bodies inside. I thought she did a great job for her first case.
The prologue was super promising, but the middle was really slow for me. Don’t get me wrong, there was a good amount of action, and there was a nice twist, but it was just a bit too slow moving for me. Even though there was a lot going on I was never fully engaged. I did like how it was all wrapped up, but I could’ve gone for a little more thrilling pizzazz. Jackpot for short chapters.
Narration notes: All the narrators did a fine job. Ryan sounded age appropriate, but could have shown a little more emotion during the action packed moments though.
There is plenty of love for this one, so don't take my word for it.

Eleanor is an author on tour in Italy, with a whole bunch of people, planning out her 10th book in a very popular series, which stars her 'friend', Connor. She's ready to kill him off in the series and he just so happens to think there's someone that actually wants him dead in real life, too.
Eleanor speaks directly to the reader (which was interesting) as we're along on the ride trying to figure out who the murderer is. With a cast of unlikable characters/suspects we are thrown for a few loops, but ultimately it's not super hard to figure out.
I can't remember exactly Eleanor's age, but I think she's in her 30's. I don't know if immature is the right word for her, but I just wish she had her act together more. She relies way too heavily on her younger sister, Harper, who is her assistant, for every little thing. The whole blackmail Connor bit was a meh, too.
Overall, cozy is not my go to for murder mysteries, but the humorous and fun moments kept me entertained, even if it took me an unusually long time (5 days) to get through it. So while I didn't hate it I'm not sure this is the right series for me.
*There are quite a bit of footnotes, which are not bothersome in the audio, and actually make listening quite fun, but I gather from those that read it that they cannot be read seamlessly. So take that into consideration if you choose to read this one*
Narration notes: Elizabeth did an outstanding job giving each character a distinct voice.

There has been another brutal murder in Painter’s Mill and Kate and her team are on the case. This time someone has been burned alive. Can’t get much more brutal than that. Was this a random attack on a snowy night? Or did Milan deserve it?
I wouldn’t expect anything but non stop action when Kate is involved and the action doesn’t let up. Kate seems to always get herself into dangerous situations and these were top tier in the danger department.
What I appreciate about Linda’s writing is that there isn’t any repetition. We get the information once and when it’s time to relay it to others she simply just tells us she filled them in or something to that effect. Way to save time and not bog us down.
Overall, another fabulous addition to the series.
Side note ~ I like the budding romance that seems to be developing within the team. I suppose since Kate and Tomassetti are finally married we need another couple to root for, and I’m all for these two.
I was lucky enough to have both the ebook and the audio. Both worked perfectly. Narration notes: She’s a bit robotic, but does a fine job. It's not the voice I picture in my head for Kate, but I’ve grown accustomed to it.

All characters were unlikable, but I didn't hate that so much for this book. I thought Rose's character was well written. Let's just say it wasn't a bad idea to remove all the glass from the house.
Overall, this was just fine for me. There was a heart pounding hot minute at the end, but ultimately I found it to be pretty slow moving. Bringing so much of Stella's own childhood story gave us a whole second plot that could have been it's own book. And then her love interest at the end seemed surprising to me and even Stella herself.

Foster sisters Jessica, Norah & Alicia lived their teenage years with Miss Fairchild, who was not a nice person at all.
Now years later bones have been found at their old foster home and they're heading back to a place they never wanted to visit again.
The alternating POV's give us a good sense of each of these women in the now and in the past. We, also, get a few chapters of psychiatrist visits that gave me mixed feelings at the end.
Overall, fast paced in now and slower in the past, but gripping nonetheless and will surely be a best seller. I love when the author has done research and she tells us about it in the author's note.
I was lucky enough to have both an ebook and the audio. Both ways worked perfectly fine. Narration notes: Jessica did a great job even though there wasn't too much of a variation between the characters voices.
