‘The Masked Singer’ spoilers: Who is Clock?

Were you as impressed as we were when Clock raised her voice in song for the first time on “The Masked Singer“? She wowed us with her flawless cover of “Piano Man” on the March 20 episode. And she won over the judges with her diction and delivery of this Billy Joel classic.

Overnight, we’ve rewatched that performance by Clock and her clues package. Forget those guesses by the judges that Dandelion is Anita Baker, Evelyn “Champagne” King or Diana Ross  We are sure we know Clock’s true identity. Keep reading as we have all your “The Masked Singer” spoilers, including the answer to the question, “Who is Clock?”

We were convinced that Clock is disco diva Thelma Houston. Don’t believe us? Besides the fact that the Clock sounds just like her, consider how so many of the clues fit in with the life of Thelma Houston.

Just like Clock, Houston came to fame during the disco era of the 1970s. She scored a #1 hit (and picked up a Grammy to boot) for “Don’t Leave Me This Way.” Collectively, this season’s contenders on “The Masked Singer” have earned 22 Grammy nominations.

And just like Clock, Houston had to reinvent herself when disco died. She turned her talents to acting, appearing on a variety of TV shows and in the stage version of “Fame.”

Talking about her comeback, Clock spoke of her “crowning achievement of performing for a president.” Houston was one of the acts that took to the stage at the Out For Equality Ball, which was part of the festivities for the inauguration of President Barack Obama in 2009.

After the man in black played a tune, Clock chimed in with the fact that she had “a date in my name.” The City of West Hollywood has designated January 29 as Thelma Houston Day.

The Clock chimed again on the March 27 episode when her voice was showcased once again singing classic TV theme song “Good Times.” Several more of the visual clues told us that were right about our guess. We saw a shot of a map for the Mississippi River Trail; Houston is from Leland, Mississippi. Like Clock, Houston has had two husbands and is the proud mother of a boy and girl. And like Clock, Houston has a connection to boats, having performed on many cruise ships.

The Clock struck twice on the April 3 episode. First she delivered a rousing rendition of “Respect” by Aretha Franklin. Then she faced off against Poodle Moth in the Battle Royal and climbed the vocal heights of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. She told host Nick Cannon that they had worked together before: Thelma performed her classic “Don’t Leave Me This Way” on an episode of “America’s Got Talent” emceed by Nick.

We will only find out if we are right that Clock is Thelma Houston when she is unmasked. That will happen when she loses a vote or wins the show. Do you think we are right about the true identity of Clock. Sound off in the comments section with your best guesses.

  1. I think like many of you that the clock is Bette milder. If its not her then the person dressed as clock sounds exactly like her.

  2. I thought it was Bette Midler the first time I listened to her sing. But, when I listened to her the second time, I swear Clock sounds just like Stockard Channing. There’s Pink Ladies’ Day. She also won an Emmy for playing the First Lady on The West Wing. (The highpoint of her career was performing in front of a president.)
But the clues also fit Thelma Houston. So who knows.

    1. It is Thelma Houston.

LOS ANGELES SENTINEL: Take us back to the moment you won your first GRAMMY. How did you feel?

THELMA HOUSTON: I was very excited. The GRAMMYS were in New York that year, so that was also exciting. To be in the room with all the people you admired felt amazing however I was nervous. I was even up against Aretha Franklin. When my name was called, I was actually at home at my apartment mopping my floor. I couldn’t believe I won!

  3. It is Bette Midler!! The rose was my favorite song as a teen I listen to it a million times. I instantly knew that voice! I can’t wait to hear her sing again💖💖

  4. It’s Bette Midler. The red on the head of the clock represents her red hair, her voice is the same and the movements were just like Bette’s.

  5. I think it’s Bette Midler… Clues: Bette’s full name is “Bette Davis Midler” (DAYvis); Bette guest starred on the show “The Politician” and that episode was called VIENNA; Bette also had a baby at age 41 (who is her only child).

  6. Yes it sounds just like bette and she has the hit sound frozen it was a clue and sang for president plus sounds just like get

  7. 100% sure it’s Bette Midler soon as I heard her saying that’s what I exactly what I said it’s Bette Midler

  8. Leaning towards Bette as well, the “Pink” background is because she “pledged to match Pink with a donation of $500,000 to help Australia during the wildfires in 2020”. As well as she beat Natalie Cole for an Emmy Award in 2001. She also celebrated with Aretha during her 69th Birthday Party and even kissed her on the cheeks. The Nick reference could be a reference to Nick Nolte perhaps. The mop is perhaps a reference to Hocus Pocus.

  9. I REALLY can’t wait until the clock is unmasked and y’all see it IS Thelma Houston! She is the only one that beat out Aretha Franklin for a Grammy while mopping her kitchen floor, not to mention she is a disco queen and sounds just like her! Go listen to Don’t leave me this way.

  10. It’s 1,000% NOT Bette Midler. A couple words sounded like her the first time, but as time has gone on, it sounds less and less like her. Also, she said she has the word “day” in her name. Doesn’t fit Bette.

  11. This is absolutely, 100% Thelma Houston. I recognized her voice immediately. (And it goes without saying, but she is absolutely, 100% NOT Bette Midler! She doesn’t sound like anything like her when she sings lol.)
