In traditional data models, where reads and writes are in synchronization now and then with databases, it becomes very necessary to maintain the "ACID" properties of the data. Here comes the role of CQRS.

What is CORS?

CQRS stands for "Command Query Responsibility Segregation" and is a design pattern in software architecture that separates the responsibility for handling command operations (writes) and query operations (reads). This pattern is particularly useful in complex systems where scaling, performance, and maintainability are critical.

Key Concepts of CQRS

To understand CQRS fully, let's break down its core concepts:

  • Commands: A command represents an action or operation that changes the state of the system. Examples include updating user information or deleting a record. Commands typically follow the principles of Imperative Programming and focus on performing a task with some side effects.
  • Queries: A query retrieves data from the system without altering its state. Examples include fetching a list of users, retrieving order details, or fetching a report. Queries are side-effect-free and are often based on Declarative Programming principles, focusing on describing what data is needed rather than how to obtain it.

In CQRS, commands and queries are handled by different models. This leads to clear separation which helps in improving system performance, scalability, and maintainability.
