Word Problems on Subtraction

1. Sarah had 75 apples. She gave 28 apples to her friend. How many apples does she have left?

To find out how many apples she has left, we subtract 28 from 75.
So, 75 - 28 = 47.
Sarah has 47 apples left.

2. A library has 150 books, and 48 books are borrowed by students. How many books remain in the library?

The library had 150 books, but 48 books were borrowed by students.

To find how many books are still in the library, we subtract 48 from 150.
So, 150 - 48 = 102.
The library has 102 books left.

3. A classroom has 60 books. If 24 of them are checked out by students, how many books are left in the classroom?

The classroom started with 60 books. If 24 were taken out.

To find out how many books remain in the library, we subtract 24 from 60.
So, 60 - 24 = 36.
There are 36 books left in the classroom.
