The IBM Associate System Engineer recruitment process for 2024 was a multi-stage challenge that tested both technical and communication skills. Here’s a breakdown of each round, my experience, and the key takeaways.

Round 1: Coding Test (Online Assessment)

  • Type: Elimination Round
  • Details:
The first round was an online coding test consisting of a single question focused on strings. Candidates had 45 minutes to solve it.
  • Outcome:
I successfully cleared this round, and the results were sent via email.

Round 2: Communication Round

  • Type: Elimination Round
  • Details:
This round assessed my listening and speaking skills, lasting for 20 minutes.
  • Outcome:
I passed this round and advanced to the next stage.

Round 3: Coding Round (On-site)

  • Type: Elimination Round
  • Details:
The on-site coding round involved a problem related to strings. Specifically, I was given a vector of strings and asked to find a specific word within it. The round required solving the problem within the allotted time.
  • Outcome:
I successfully cleared this round. The results were announced within an hour, and I moved on to the next stage.

Round 4: Group Discussion (GD) and Essay Writing

  • Type: Elimination Round
  • Details:
In this round, we were asked to write essays on five questions related to past experiences, each with a 5-minute time limit to write a 400-word essay. Following the essay writing, there was a Group Discussion on the topic, "Our Dependence on AI."
  • Outcome:
Unfortunately, I got eliminated in this round.

Round 5: Interview (Final Round)

  • Type: Final Round
  • Details:
The final interview round was the most uncertain for me. Despite preparing well, I couldn’t pinpoint exactly what went wrong, and I was unable to progress further in the process.
  • Outcome:
I did not make it past the interview stage.

Reflection

The IBM selection process was a comprehensive journey that taught me valuable lessons. It highlighted the importance of balancing both technical skills and communication abilities. Although I didn't make it past the Group Discussion round, I came away with key insights on areas for improvement, including refining my communication and problem-solving strategies for future interviews.
