Android Layout Editor - Code, Split And Design

Android Layout Editor is the workplace in Android Studio, in which we do the design part of an android app by just dragging UI elements into the editor instead of writing XML code for it. Android Studio Layout Editor enables us to build layouts by dragging components onto the screen or editing an XML layout file. Android Studio Layout Editor, does the following things:

Add components to the layout using drag and drop
Add and change all the attributes (properties) for components
View and Edit constraints for layouts
Edit XML code for layout
Prepare a responsive design with a preview

Components of Layout Manager

Palette: Contains multiple views and view groups that can be dragged onto the layout.
Component Tree: Displays the component hierarchical relationships within the layout.
Design Editor: Contains Blueprint View and Design View for editing the layout.
Display Mode: Display the layout in either design, split, or code mode. In split mode, the code window and the design window are displayed at the same time.
Toolbar: Click this button to customize the appearance of the design and change the properties of the design in the editor.
Properties: Manage the properties of the selected view.
Zoom and Pan Controls: control the size and position of the preview in the editor.

View Mode

There are 3 view modes in an android layout editor.

1. Code: In this view mode, we write XML code for design.

2. Design: In this view mode, we drag UI elements into view from the palette (default available views).

3. Split: This is a hybrid view mode, in this view mode editor is divided into two parts one is the code view mode and the other is the design view mode
