This book is for all the people I love and love to write poems for and about: Jane, my wife, Emily and Julia, my grand-daughters, and all my friends who are kind enough to read this madness.

    Acknowledgments

I’d like to thank my high school English teacher for being so complimentary of my writing abilities. She made me want to continue being a writer.

Also, I must thank Bob Hackett for being the first person I ever met who kept a journal and encouraging me to do the same. He was a cool guy and made writing seem like a worthwhile endeavor.

Song lyrics are a form of poetry I have come to love, so I’d also like to thank all my buddies who wrote songs with me: Pierre Grill of Rendezvous Studios, Jerry Steelfox, John Morris, Gyula Schrieber, Jim Erhart, Gabe Preis, Jojo Russell, Rabbit Mackay, Chris Woods, Barba Rosa, Antonio Azevedo, and Davo.

And finally, I’d like to thank my loving wife, Jane Smith-Martin for thirty-seven wonderful years of marriage, for being supportive of my writing and telling me I could spend some more money to publish this, my second book of poetry madness. I hope you enjoy this collection and may it inspire you to write some.

    Even before you were born

And I will always love you

    Even when we’re apart

I’ll carry you with me always

    Don’t you see?

    The joy you bring

    Comes back to you

    In songs I sing

And every time you look my way

You brighten up my cloudy day

I should write this in a book

You lighten my heart with just a look
