CHAPTER 1: THE SUBCONSCIOUS AND THE MAIN PRINCIPLES OF DEVELOPMENT
It is believed that the brain is the organ responsible for all bodily functions. Though we still don’t fully understand it, this is the place where ideas come from and are stored. We can see where memories are stored using sophisticated MRI scans, but we still have to deal with the memories themselves. (Figure 1.1)
The brain is a genuinely amazing organ in humans. It dictates our thoughts, what we think, how we feel about them, and even what we do in response to them. Our ideas are processed, created, responded to, and stored by a complicated network made up of an estimated 100 billion brain cells (WebMD.com, n.d.). The mind is a far more ethereal idea, while the brain is its physical manifestation.
Although the two terms are sometimes used interchangeably, they are really more frequently mutually exclusive. The mind may reside in the brain, but researchers are still figuring out exactly where it is located among the 100 billion neurons in the brain. But throughout time, psychologists have created their own hypotheses. Theories on the location of the mind date back to the Ancient Greeks. They called this the soul seat,
for want of a better term at the time. If there was a seat for the human soul, it would undoubtedly be in the mind, not the brain.
Sigmund first codified the idea that the mind contains halves, just as the brain has physical hemispheres.
It takes skill to successfully change our views in order for our brains to develop and be used in our daily lives. Perception is essentially the process by which we comprehend, interpret, and respond to an object. In a well-known statement, author and philosopher Aldus Huxley stated that perception is divided into two categories: known and unknown.Events are beyond our control; all we can do is alter our perspective of them. Thus, the only thing we can alter are our views. In order to effectively accomplish that and live better, more satisfying lives, we must investigate, comprehend, and alter the world of our subconscious minds.
What Is the Subconscious?
Give up. Inhale deeply. Have you given that breath any thought? Since you were instructed to, you undoubtedly did.
But do you really need to consider each breath you take? No. The autonomic nervous system is the term used by scientists to describe these and a myriad of other complex mechanisms that keep our bodies functioning, including digestion, heart rate, blood circulation, and a host of other functions. Our body functions as a copilot to assist keep things running while we, as the captain, are engaged in other activities. The subconscious mind is in charge of these autonomic nervous system functions.
Scientist and best-selling author Bruce Lipton suggests that our subconscious mind is a CD writer or tape recorder that saves every event we have ever had.
We cannot stop the tape that plays continuously throughout our lives because, for example, the subconscious mind functions independently of the conscious mind and there is very little observable contact between the two. We follow the instructions without question, as we are being led by a dancing instructor who calls out the steps and rhythm to be followed. In essence, this makes us feel like puppets controlled by our subconscious.
The subconscious mind is the one that manipulates us; despite the fact that we may think we have control over our conscious minds, our subconscious minds store and develop our urges, impulses, and experiences. (Figure 1.2)
Don’t give up if the vision makes you feel really down. Additionally, we’ve learned that although we can’t merely talk
to the subconscious mind, there are methods to interact with it and regain control. Ziogas (2018) argues that since our subconscious mind governs our lives and experiences, it is imperative that we learn to regulate it. This implies that in order to fulfill our greatest desires.
The famous life coach and public speaker Brian Tracy (n.d.) describes the subconscious as like a huge memory bank.
It has an almost infinite capacity and saves everything that occurs to you forever. The fact that we are totally ignorant of the ideas, memories, and feelings kept in our subconscious minds is something he omits from his discussion here. These feelings, ideas, and encounters shape the routines we lead throughout life. We are, as it were, hardwired to act a specific way. For instance, if you had a negative childhood experience in a swimming pool, the memory is likely lodged in your subconscious. perhaps as you become older, you could still detest swimming and perhaps prefer taking showers.
Except for a few innate urges, such the survival and procreation drives (Kendra, 2019), which are focused with maintaining life and propagation, research indicates that the subconscious mind is originally empty at birth. According to
