    This book is your guide to prepare for the CASAS Reading STEPS level B test. It's filled with lessons to help you read better.

    This book has five units and one practice test. Each unit has three to six lessons, for a total of 17 lessons. The lessons teach important skills like basic communication, understanding money, finding community help, staying healthy, finding a job, and learning about government and laws. These skills will help you in many parts of your life.

    When you read this book, you will interact with different texts and information about reading and real-world activities. After you read, you will answer questions. These questions make sure you understand the main points, details, the writer's thoughts, and the words they use.

    Remember, reading is a skill that gets better as you use it. This book is a unique tool. It will teach you about school and life and give you information to help you in your community, with your family, and at work.

    Good luck as you practice your reading! Every lesson you finish will take you closer to your goals. 

    Reading Strategies:

    Here are ten ways you can improve your reading comprehension skills:

    Preview the chapter: Look at titles and subtitles to get an idea of what you will read.

    Set a purpose: Decide why you are reading. Is it to answer a question or learn something new?

    Read aloud daily: This can help you better understand texts. The more you read, the better you will get.

    Use pictures: They can help you guess and understand the text.

    Re-read: If you don't understand something, read it again.

    Summarize: After reading, tell yourself what the text was about.

    Ask questions: While reading, ask who, what, where, when, why, and how.

    Make connections: Relate the text to your own life or things you already know.
