An excellent introductory review of data analytics terms and concepts, tools, and best practices for those who are interested in getting into this field -- a desirable field in these times. The book is well-organized and has supplementary quizzes and real-world use cases.

In light of the current discourse on AI tools, it would have been beneficial to update the book to indicate that AI tools can now be used, not just on big data projects but also on smaller company data sets as well. Companies can now use these tools to tackle various phases of data analytics work such as analyzing company's disparate data sets, performing analyses based on objective inputs and developing insights and action items. Obviously, the quality of the analysis and insights differ based on the AI tools employed and a critical review is very much needed to ensure the output is not erroneous or wrong-headed, due to the tools' implicit biases. A section on pitfalls of using these tools would be a great addition.

This book is a good introduction to concepts of data analytics. Topics are well-organized and covered at a beginning level in clear language. The numerous references provide opportunities for further examination of particular subjects. The chapter questions are helpful for review. I would have enjoyed more detail in the case studies. This volume is very definitely an introduction to the subject, but should prepare the reader to more confidently move on to other sources with more detail and hands-on material.

This book about data analytics is filled with citations, which lends credibility yet reads a bit like a masters’ thesis or an attempt to scale down a data analytics textbook. Each chapter has a short quiz, and some sections are a bit repetitive. There are interesting yet quite simplistic case studies toward the end of the book. I would not see this as a comprehensive source on data analytics, but could see it being useful as an easily accessible overview.

I received a free copy of this ebook as part of the LibraryThing Early Reviewers program in exchange for my honest review.

This is a decently legit intro to the basics of data analytics and other data-related concerns. It's mostly intended for private businesses (as demonstrated by the case studies being private businesses) and the people who work in them, but since AI and big data are two of the big current conceptual fads in technology, this would be a worthwhile read for people working in the public sector, the military, or pretty much anywhere else that's concerned with big data, data science, ethical/legal/privacy concerns arising from big data, and other similar issues.

It doesn't give a lot of math problems or equations, but that's ok - this isn't intended to be a technical manual for coders or computer science people, but rather a conceptual overview for everyone else. It succeeds very well in that sense.
