Introduction
In writing about Disciplined Hiring (see PCPM Best Practice Series - Five Human Resource Best Practices for Private Clubs), I talked about the importance of hiring A-Players for key club management positions. High performing A-Players are described by Dr. Bradford Smart, in his book Topgrading, as individuals who "…contribute more, innovate more, work smarter, earn more trust, display more resourcefulness, take more initiative, develop better business strategies, articulate their vision more passionately, implement change more effectively, deliver higher quality work, demonstrate greater teamwork, and find ways to get the job done in less time with less cost."
While any sector of club operations would benefit from having an A-Player leading the department, having an A-Player as the club
