The latest FRA Survey on Anti-Semitism conducted by the Fundamental Rights Agency put in evidence a 96% of respondents who experienced antisemitism before 7 October 2023. The number of anti-Semitic acts has skyrocketed since the Hamas attacks last years, as underlined by both speakers at LIBE exchange of views on 17 October.

Sirpa Rautio, Director of FRA, presented key findings from the Agency's Survey on Jewish People's Experiences and Perceptions of Antisemitism, based on 8,000 respondents from 13 Member States, collected before the October 2023 attacks. The survey reveals that anti-Semitism remains pervasive in society and manifests in various forms, not solely driven by political ideologies. A major concern is the rise of online anti-Semitic hate speech, which spreads quickly and discourages Jewish civic engagement. Many respondents reported avoiding public displays of their identity for safety reasons.

The FRA stresses the need for better monitoring, funding, and dedicated coordinators to combat anti-Semitism.

Katherina von Schnurbein, EU Coordinator for combating antisemitism, highlighted EU and Member State efforts, such as national strategies, online guidelines, and funding to improve security for Jewish institutions.
LIBE Members emphasized crime reporting, education and Holocaust remembrance.
