PASU Chair of Policy and Sustainability

The Chair of Policy & Sustainability (PASU) conducts research on the economics and politics of sustainable development, as well as the policies to achieve it. Our research agenda generally rests on the following pillars.

(1) We construct formal and game theoretic models to analyze social processes causing environmental issues.

(2) We quantify chokepoints in transitions to clean technologies using experiments, quasi-experiments, and simulations.

(3) We assess the impact of public policies using econometrics and machine learning.

Topics that we have worked on in recent years include: the clean energy transition | energy access, energy poverty, and energy inequality | climate and energy policy | labor markets and decarbonization | geopolitics and geoeconomics of the energy transition.

We conduct both fundamental and applied research and we often collaborate with partners from civil society, industry, and policymaking to generate policy-relevant insights.
