Sam Raimi hive, assemble! As you'll no doubt recall, last July we reported that the Evil Dead filmmaker had signed on to direct and produce Send Help, a buzzy new horror-thriller from 20th Century Studios. Fast forward to October, and word came through that Raimi's Doctor Strange star Rachel McAdams is set to co-lead the film, tantalisingly described as a two-hander. Now, per Deadline's latest update on the projectt, we know who the chiller's second hand will be: Lake Caddo and Teen Wolf star Dylan O'Brien.
Described as a survival horror thriller about two work colleagues who find themselves fighting for survival on a deserted island as the sole survivors of a plane crash, Send Help — previously pitched as "Misery meets Cast Away" — is setting itself up as a real battle of wits and wills. Perhaps the most intriguing thing about the movie so far however is that while there's a genre great in the directorial hotseat and two top stars set to light up the screen in front of the camera, the script for this one actually hails from Baywatch writing duo Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, whose last foray into horror was 2009's oft-maligned yet recently somewhat reappraised Friday The 13th remake.
Could this be a Craig Mazin The Hangover Part III to Chernobyl style moment in the making? Will O'Brien and McAdams' stranded co-workers learn to get along while partaking in what could accurately be described as the world's most extreme team building exercise? And will there be a scene in which someone hobbles a volleyball? At this point in time, we couldn't possibly say. But what we do know is if there's a new Sam Raimi horror joint on its way, then we're already seated. In the cinema. Right now. For however long it takes.
