Back in September, we brought you the eyebrow raising news that Conclave director Edward Berger could be set to direct long-gestating heist sequel Ocean's 14. But, as you may recall, at the time we did advise taking about a shovel's worth of salt with Deadline's reporting as it was very early doors in the negotiation process. And it's just as well that we did, because Deadline's latest update is a real bad news, good news situation. The bad news is Berger won't be masterminding Danny Ocean's big screen comeback; the good news is that John Wick co-creator and The Fall Guy filmmaker David Leitch might be.

According to Deadline, whose sources confirm an initial exclusive from hit-and-miss Hollywood scooper Jeff Sneider, Leitch is in early talks to direct the fourth film in the mainline Ocean's franchise, which would also mark the first not to be helmed by Steven Soderbergh. The expectation at present is that George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Danny Ocean's OG heisting crew would all be back for one last job in the film, with Clooney saying in an Uproxx interview while promoting The Boys In The Boat that a script for Ocean's 14 is now complete. And although plot details on the film remain firmly under wraps at present, in the same interview Clooney did hint at the creative direction the movie might take, citing 2017 ageing heist caper Going In Style as a point of reference.

A prospective Leitch-led Ocean's 14 would actually be one of two Ocean's joints currently in development. Though it's been a while since we heard any word on it, Jay Roach's 60s set Ocean's Eleven prequel — which would potentially see Barbie co-stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling re-team for a European heisting hit — is still, as far as we can tell, in at least some stage of development. When or indeed whether we get to see either of these films, only time will tell. But just to be on the safe side, we're already plotting our premiere break-in, because that red carpet will be priceless. So... who's down to be our getaway driver?
