Why Women Kill: Trailer, certificate and where to watch
An exploration of infidelity through multiple women living in multiple decades
Year: 2019-2021
Certificate: 15
Each of the three stories in this dark ten-part US comedy-drama from Marc Cherry (the creator of Desperate Housewives) ends in murder, with the three women at the centre of the action either the victims or perpetrators.
In series one, Lucy Liu plays Simone Grove, a socialite married to a man who is secretly a homosexual in the 1980s. Beth Ann Stanton (Once Upon A Time's Ginnifer Goodwin) has to deal with her husband's infidelity in the 1960s, while lawyer Taylor Harding (Killing Eve's Kirby Howell-Baptiste) finds her open marriage tested when she and her husband are attracted to the same woman in 2019.
For series two, there's just one timeline to follow, focusing on Alma Filcott (Fargo's Alison Tolman), a plain homemaker in Florida in 1949, who yearns to join an exclusive club and be seen by the beautiful people. But those beautiful people are drowning in murky, murderous secrets, and none more so than the club's president Rita Castillo (24's Lana Parrilla).
Knotty, entertaining and thoroughly addictive, this is one of those dramas that gets its claws into you instantly. The multiple time periods inject some nostalgic vintage glamour - think Mad Men's style mixed, like a martini, with Desperate Housewives' mystery and melodrama. (Two series)
