Marco Asensio is one of a number of attacking players Aston Villa are eyeing as Unai Emery looks to bolster his squad before the transfer window closes on February 3.

Villa need reinforcements as leading goalscorer Jhon Duran is closing on completing a £64.5million move to Al-Nassr.

Asensio has been on Villa's watchlist for some time now and it is understood that the Midlands club are confident that agreeing a deal to sign him on loan would be fairly straightforward.

The 29-year-old Spain international is currently under contract with Paris Saint-Germain until June 2026.

He has been at PSG since July 2023 when he arrived from Real Madrid.

Asensio has scored seven goals in 47 appearances for the French club, having netted 61 times in 286 outings for his former side.

However, he has been an unused substitute in three of the last four games and PSG are willing to offload him this winter, having offered him around to multiple potential suitors.

Villa are also still looking at Chelsea playmaker Joao Felix and Wolves star Matheus Cunha, while Bayern Munich's Mathys Tel is slightly further down their list.

Asensio would bring plenty of European experience to Villa Park, having won three UEFA Champions League titles with Madrid.

Villa booked their place in the round of 16 in this season's Champions League on Wednesday night when they beat Celtic 4-2 to finish eighth in the league phase.

Meanwhile, Asensio was an unused substitute as PSG won 4-1 away at Stuttgart.

That result saw the French champions end up in 15th spot, securing a place in the play-offs.

PSG will now face Portuguese side Benfica over two legs in February, with the winner going on to meet either Liverpool or Barcelona in the round of 16 in March.
