Canadiens' Jayden Struble: Fills in for Guhle
Struble blocked one shot and had one hit in Thursday's 4-0 loss to Minnesota.
Struble, who was on a conditioning assignment at AHL Laval, was called up Thursday and should take regular shifts on the third pairing for a stretch. He's taking over for the injured Kaiden Guhle, who is set to miss an indefinite amount of time after undergoing surgery Wednesday to repair a lacerated quadricep muscle. Struble has two goals and three assists over 26 outings.

Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Takes first loss
Dobes allowed three goals on 26 shots in Thursday's 4-0 loss to the Wild.
It took seven games into his NHL career for Dobes to pick up his first loss. He didn't get much help from his teammates on the first two goals. Alexandre Carrier knocked the stick out of his hands, and Liam Ohgren scored seconds later. Two minutes later, a defensive breakdown led to a two-on-one rush and to a Marco Rossi tally. Dobes has been a good story since being called up in late December, but the rookie has allowed 11 goals over his last three starts and lost two straight. Montreal has a two days off before beginning a road trip in Anaheim on Sunday.

Canadiens' Emil Heineman: Placed on injured reserve
Heineman was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, per the NHL media site.
Heineman was involved in a traffic accident in mid-January in which he sustained an upper-body injury that was expected to sideline him for 3-4 weeks. It's unclear whether he'll be able to return before the 4 Nations Face-Off, but his placement on injured reserve won't impact his return timetable, as he's already missed the last eight games.

Canadiens' Kaiden Guhle: Undergoes surgery
Guhle is out indefinitely after undergoing surgery Wednesday to repair a lacerated quadricep muscle.
Guhle has four goals, 14 points, 67 hits and 100 blocks over 44 appearances in 2024-25. Jayden Struble will likely play regularly during Guhle's absence. Montreal will also likely call up a defenseman from the minors since the team is down to six healthy blueliners.

Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Expected starter for Thursday
Dobes is set to start at home against the Wild on Thursday, Eric Engels of Sportsnet reports Wednesday.
Dobes has a 5-0-1 record, 1.93 GAA and .933 save percentage in six appearances in 2024-25. He suffered his first career NHL loss Saturday when he stopped 40 of 44 shots in a 4-3 overtime loss to New Jersey. Minnesota ranks 18th in goals per game with 2.92.

Canadiens' Jayden Struble: Recalled by Montreal
Struble was recalled from AHL Laval on Wednesday.
Struble was sent to the AHL for a conditioning assignment Friday, but he'll rejoin the Canadiens ahead of Thursday's home game against the Wild. The 23-year-old was a frequent healthy scratch before being sent down, but he could see an uptick in playing time if Kaiden Guhle (lower body) is forced to miss time.

Canadiens' Nick Suzuki: Logs assist in loss
Suzuki had an assist, three shots on net, one block and one hit in Tuesday's 4-1 loss to Winnipeg.
Suzuki appeared to catch Connor Hellebuyck by surprise with his pass from behind the net to Juraj Slafkovsky, who beat the netminder to give Montreal a 1-0 lead. Suzuki has four points in the last two games and leads the Canadiens with 36 assists through 50 outings.

Canadiens' Juraj Slafkovsky: Heating up
Slafkovsky scored a goal on one shot, blocked two shots and registered a hit in Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Jets.
Connor Hellebuyck was slow to react when Slafkovsky beat him far side for the game's opening goal. It was the fourth goal in the last seven outings for Slafkovsky, who also has two helpers during his scoring binge. The 20-year-old winger still has some work to do to match the 20 goals he scored last season; Slafkovsky has eight tallies through 47 games.

Canadiens' Sam Montembeault: Beaten by Winnipeg
Montembeault allowed three goals on 23 shots in Tuesday's 4-1 loss to Winnipeg.
Montembeault was done in by the Jets' first line, which beat him three times. It was the second consecutive loss for Montembeault, who has gone eight starts without consecutive wins. He has a 3.40 GAA and an .889 save percentage during the stretch. Next up for Montreal is a home game against the Wild on Thursday.

Canadiens' Kaiden Guhle: Needs further evaluation
Guhle suffered a lower-body injury in Tuesday's game versus the Jets and will require further evaluation, Stu Cowan of The Montreal Gazette reports.
Guhle caught a rut and fell awkwardly in the third period. The 23-year-old is a big part of the Canadiens' top four and would be a big loss if he's out for any length of time. Jayden Struble is likely to enter the lineup if Guhle is unavailable for Thursday's game against the Wild.

Canadiens' Sam Montembeault: Gets starting nod against Jets
Montembeault will be between the pipes for Tuesday's home clash with Winnipeg.
Montembeault continues to see plenty of work in the Habs' crease despite the fact that youngster Jakub Dobes has yet to suffer a regular loss in six NHL appearances. The 28-year-old Montembeault, meanwhile, has been rather pedestrian of late, going 2-2-1 with a 3.20 GAA in his prior five outings. If Montembeault struggles again Tuesday, don't be surprised to see Dobes getting a look versus Minnesota on Thursday or Anaheim on Sunday.

Canadiens' Juraj Slafkovsky: Contributes pair of helpers
Slafkovsky notched two assists, two shots on goal and a plus-3 rating in Saturday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Devils.
Slafkovsky notched his first multi-point effort since Dec. 17 versus the Sabres. While he hasn't been explosive recently, he's also gone no more than two contests without a point. Playing alongside Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield again has helped steady Slafkovsky's production. The 20-year-old winger has seven goals, 21 assists, 62 shots on net, 110 hits and a minus-7 rating across 46 appearances.

Canadiens' Alexandre Carrier: Scores in overtime loss
Carrier scored a goal on two shots and blocked six shots in Saturday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Devils.
Carrier has six points and a plus-7 rating over his last 10 contests. The 28-year-old defenseman got his first goal of the campaign at 3:34 of the third period, tying the game at 3-3 and ultimately forcing overtime. The blueliner is up to 17 points, 47 shots on net, 46 hits, 83 blocked shots and a minus-6 rating through 46 appearances between the Canadiens and the Predators. He's been a natural fit in Montreal's top four and is playing well enough to be a depth option in fantasy.

Canadiens' Cole Caufield: Records goal, assist Saturday
Caufield had a goal and an assist in Saturday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Devils.
Caufield snapped a two-game pointless drought with this two-point effort Saturday, and the 24-year-old also ended a five-game goal drought when he found the back of the net in the latter stages of the second period. Caufield has been productive of late despite the lack of consistency and has managed to record 12 points (six goals, six assists) in 12 January games.

Canadiens' Nick Suzuki: Three-point effort not enough
Suzuki recorded a goal and two assists in Saturday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Devils.
Suzuki got involved in each of the team's three goals Saturday, but his spectacular performance wasn't enough to lift the Canadiens to victory after Jack Hughes scored the game-winner for New Jersey in the final minute of overtime. Suzuki has been productive in recent weeks and has cracked the scoresheet in four of his last six appearances, and as the center of both the first line and the first power play unit, he should continue to find plenty of opportunities to keep producing. Suzuki is up to 50 points (15 goals, 35 assists) in 49 games this season.

Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: First loss of NHL career Saturday
Dobes stopped 40 of 44 shots in Saturday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Devils.
Dobes had been a revelation early in his NHL career, as he had a perfect 5-0-0 record with a 1.55 GAA and a .941 save percentage over the first five outings of his career before losing Saturday. Even with the loss, Dobes earned his team a valuable standings point with his 40-save effort. The promising 23-year-old netminder is still behind Sam Montembeault on the depth chart, but Dobes' early success makes him a viable fantasy option whenever he's called to defend the Canadiens' crease.
