  • Blue Jays' Arjun Nimmala: Rehabbing in FCL

Nimmala has gone 0-for-2 with a walk and an RBI through two rehab games in the rookie-level Florida Complex League after Double-A New Hampshire placed him on its 7-day injured list May 30 due to a hamstring strain, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.

After being promoted to New Hampshire on May 3, Nimmala slashed .308/.375/.369 with no home runs and three stolen bases across 72 plate appearances in 18 games before being forced to the shelf. He appears poised to return to the Double-A lineup before the All-Star break, as he's since been able to begin stockpiling at-bats in the FCL. The 20-year-old infielder is regarded as one of the top prospects in the Toronto system and could reach the big leagues as soon as 2027.

  • Blue Jays' Andres Gimenez: Heading to bench vs. lefty

Gimenez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets.

Lefty Sean Manaea is starting for the Mets, so the Blue Jays will send Gimenez and fellow left-handed batter Daulton Varsho to the bench in order to add a pair of righty hitters to the mix. Luis Urias will enter the lineup at second base and will bat seventh while Ernie Clement shifts over from the keystone to cover shortstop in place of Gimenez.

  • Blue Jays' Daulton Varsho: Idle with lefty on mound

Varsho is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets.

Lefty Sean Manaea is starting for the Mets, so the Blue Jays will send Varsho and fellow left-handed batter Andres Gimenez to the bench in order to add a pair of righty hitters to the mix. Myles Straw will replace Varsho in center field and will bat ninth.

  • Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: Taking seat Monday

Kirk is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets.

Kirk will be given a breather after he started at catcher in the final two games of the Blue Jays' weekend series versus the Rangers. Brandon Valenzuela will step in behind the plate Monday and form a battery with starting pitcher Trey Yesavage.

  • Blue Jays' Max Scherzer: Nearing return to mound

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said that Scherzer (back/side) played catch Monday and could throw a bullpen session as soon as Tuesday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Scherzer threw a bullpen session as recently as last Monday, but the Blue Jays briefly shut him down a few days later after he experienced left side discomfort that was seemingly related to the back spasms that forced him to the injured list June 17. The right-hander received a cortisone shot Friday and has responded well to the injection, so he'll start the process of getting stretched back out. Scherzer could have a realistic shot at returning to the Toronto rotation at some point next week if he avoids any further setbacks while building up.

  • Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: Resumes playing catch

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Monday that Garcia (elbow/neck/biceps) has resumed playing catch, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Garcia has been on the shelf all season after requiring surgery last September to remove scar tissue around his right elbow, but biceps and neck nerve symptoms were cited as the reason behind the Blue Jays' decision to pull him off his rehab assignment last week. The right-hander appears to have responded well to several days of rest, prompting the Blue Jays to clear him to begin throwing again. Given that he's dealt with multiple setbacks this season -- Garcia was also pulled off a rehab assignment in May due to elbow soreness -- he could be built up slowly before the Blue Jays clear him to report back to a minor-league affiliate.

  • Blue Jays' Addison Barger: Shut down due to stress reaction

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Monday that Barger (elbow) will be shut down for a couple of weeks after recently sustaining a stress reaction in his back, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Per Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca, Schneider noted that Barger made been progressing well in his recovery from right elbow inflammation while ramping up his hitting over the past few weeks, but the back issue will most likely delay the 26-year-old's return from the injured list until after the All-Star break. After a strong finish to the 2025 regular season and a star turn in the Blue Jays' run to the World Series, Barger has been unable to build on that breakout performance, largely due to injury. He's been limited to just nine games with the big club so far in 2026 while missing time due to left and right ankle sprains in addition to the elbow and back problems.

  • Blue Jays' Louis Varland: Tagged with loss Sunday

Varland (3-3) took the loss Sunday against the Rangers, striking out the side in the ninth inning but allowing one run on one hit.

With the score tied 2-2, the Blue Jays turned to their closer in the top of the ninth inning with a potential save situation off the table, but Varland suffered a very fluky loss. Following a two-out double by Josh Jung, Varland saw pinch runner Jarred Kelenic race home from second base after a wild pitch took a strange bounce that left catcher Alejandro Kirk unable to find it in time. Varland has been scored upon in three of 12 appearances in June, posting a 2.57 ERA, 0.71 WHIP and 20:3 K:BB over 14 innings on the month while going 8-for-8 in converting save chances.

  • Blue Jays' Nathan Lukes: Swats fourth homer

Lukes went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's loss to the Rangers.

The 31-year-old outfielder accounted for all the Blue Jays' offense when he took Cole Winn deep in the eighth inning. Lukes has four long balls on the season, and all of them have come in June -- a month in which he's produced a .317/.364/.488 slash line with two doubles, eight RBI and 10 runs in 24 contests.

  • Blue Jays' Shane Bieber: Better in second start

Bieber did not factor into the decision in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Rangers, allowing two runs on five hits and four walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out four.

Bieber got off to a rocky start Sunday, giving up a home run to Joc Pederson on the first pitch he threw in the game. However, he managed to settle in and hold the Rangers without another run until the sixth inning. It's certainly a step in the right direction for Bieber, who gave up four runs on nine hits (including three homers) in just 3.2 innings in his first start of the season against the Astros after he spent the first three months of the year on the IL with an elbow issue. Bieber will look to build on Sunday's outing in his next start, currently slated to come on the road against the Mariners.

  • Blue Jays' George Springer: Back in starting nine Sunday

Springer (personal) will serve as the Blue Jays' designated hitter and hit leadoff in Sunday's game against the Rangers.

The Blue Jays had been preparing for the possibility of Springer going on the paternity list this weekend, but he ended up sticking around after sitting out Saturday's 7-4 loss. Springer could still go on paternity leave at some point during the upcoming week, making him a risky fantasy option during that period.

  • Blue Jays' Sean Keys: Collects hit in MLB debut

Keys went 1-for-4 with a run scored in Saturday's 7-4 loss to the Rangers.

Making his big-league debut at first base while Vladimir Guerrero got a partial breather as the DH and George Springer prepared for a potential stint on the paternity list, Keys collected his first career hit in the sixth inning and came around to score as the Blue Jays tried to claw their way back from an early 6-0 deficit. It's not clear how long Keys will remain on the 26-man roster, but the 23-year-old corner infielder could see consistent playing time while he's in the majors after producing a 1.122 OPS and seven homers in his first 18 games for Triple-A Buffalo.

  • Blue Jays' Dylan Cease: Can't find plate in Saturday's loss

Cease (4-4) took the loss Saturday, giving up four runs on four hits and five walks over 4.2 innings as the Blue Jays fell 7-4 to the Rangers. He struck out 10.

While the right-hander did rack up his fifth double-digit strikeout game of the season, Cease struggled to find the plate consistently and issued a season-high five free passes. Walks have been an issue for Cease since he returned from a hamstring strain in early June, and over four starts this month he has a 36:14 K:BB in 21.1 innings along with a 2.95 ERA and 1.31 WHIP. He'll try to tighten things up in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next weekend in Seattle.

  • Blue Jays' Owen Carapellotti: Traded to Toronto

The Athletics traded Carapellotti to the Blue Jays on Saturday in exchange for Hayden Juenger.

Carapellotti signed with the A's as an undrafted free agent in 2025 and has spent all of 2026 at Single-A, where he's slashed .267/.389/.627 with eight homers, 20 RBI and 19 runs scored through 75 plate appearances. However, he's been on the injured list since late May with an undisclosed injury. If the 23-year-old backstop continues to hit well after he's activated, he could make a push to reach High-A Vancouver by the end of the season.

  • Blue Jays' George Springer: Left out of lineup

Springer (personal) isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Texas.

Although no official roster move has been made just yet, Springer is expected to be away from the team for the weekend while on paternity leave. Vladimir Guerrero will fill in as Toronto's designated hitter with Springer out, opening up first base for Sean Keys.

  • Blue Jays' Davis Schneider: Optioned to Triple-A

The Blue Jays optioned Schneider to Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday.

After going 0-for-11 across his last five games, Schneider will end up as the roster casualty necessary to make room for Sean Keys, who was promoted from Triple-A on Saturday. Schneider owns just a .578 OPS in the big leagues this season and will likely have to show improvement at the plate in the minors before getting another chance with the Jays.
