Rays' Xavier Isaac: Garners spring invite
The Rays have extended Isaac an invitation to big-league camp during spring training, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Isaac slashed .264/.370/.480 with 18 home runs and 15 stolen bases over 102 games between High-A Bowling Green and Double-A Montgomery in 2024. The 21-year-old isn't a realistic candidate to make the Rays' Opening Day roster, but they hope he'll be a staple in their lineup eventually. Fellow top prospects Carson Williams and Tre' Morgan are among the Rays' other spring training invitees.

Rays' Jonathan Hernandez: Lands in Tampa Bay as NRI
The Rays signed Hernandez to a minor-league contract Thursday that includes an invitation to spring training, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Hernandez, 28, posted a 5.40 ERA and 39:28 K:BB over 43.1 innings between the Rangers and Mariners last season. He will compete for a bullpen job this spring but is likely ticketed for Triple-A Durham.

Rays' Ha-Seong Kim: Agrees to deal with Tampa Bay
The Rays signed Kim (shoulder) to a two-year, $29 million contract Wednesday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
The deal includes an opt-out after the first year, which would potentially allow Kim to hit the free-agent market again next winter if he bounces back from right shoulder surgery. Tampa Bay expects Kim to be ready to debut for the team by May, at which point he will take over as its everyday shortstop. Taylor Walls and Jose Caballero will compete for reps at short until Kim is ready. Kim, 29, slashed .233/.330/.370 with 11 home runs and 22 stolen bases with the Padres in 2024.

Rays' Brandon Eisert: Sent to Tampa
The Blue Jays traded Eisert to the Rays on Thursday in exchange for cash considerations.
Eisert was dropped from the Jays' 40-man roster Monday to make room for new signee Anthony Santander, but the former will reclaim a roster spot as he changes organizations. Eisert reached the majors for the first time last season, allowing three earned runs in 6.2 innings across three appearances. He'll most likely begin the 2025 campaign with Triple-A Durham.

Rays' Taylor Walls: Avoids arbitration with Tampa Bay
The Rays and Walls avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.35 million contract with a $2.45 million club option for 2026 on Wednesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
The buyout on the option is $50,000, so Walls is guaranteed at least $1.4 million. Walls, 28, slashed only .183/.282/.248 over 84 games for the Rays in 2024 but remains an excellent defender and should get ample time at shortstop in 2025.

Rays' Andrew Wantz: Gets chance with Rays
Wantz (elbow) signed a minor-league deal with the Rays on Jan. 2.
Per Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times, it's a two-year contract, as Wantz is recovering from right elbow surgery and the earliest could be ready to pitch for the Rays is late in the 2025 season. Wantz has a career 3.88 ERA and 126:48 K:BB over 118.1 frames covering parts of four major-league seasons.

Rays' Maykel Coret: Gets $1.6 million
The Rays signed Coret for $1.6 million Wednesday, Ben Badler of Baseball America reports.
Coret has some of the most exciting raw tools in the class, as a 6-foot-4, 185-pound outfielder with big-time bat speed and plus foot speed. It's tough to scout the hit tools of 16-year-olds, but Coret is believed to have some aptitude as a pure hitter and not just a power hitter. He should begin his pro career in the Dominican Summer League in June.

Rays' Ben Rortvedt: Avoids arbitration
The Rays and Rortvedt avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.125 million contract Thursday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
He was eligible for arbitration for the first time this winter. Rortvedt led Rays catchers with 328 plate appearances in 2024 but is slated to take a back seat to Danny Jansen in 2025.

Rays' Shane Baz: Reaches deal with Tampa Bay
Baz and the Rays avoided arbitration Thursday by agreeing to a one-year, $1.45 million deal, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Baz was limited to 14 starts with Tampa Bay in 2024 after spending the early part of the season completing his recovery from September 2022 Tommy John surgery as well as an oblique injury that cropped up during spring training. Once he joined the big-league rotation in early July, Baz struggled to regain his pre-surgery velocity but achieved strong results nonetheless, posting a 3.06 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 79.1 innings. Though Baz needed a .229 BABIP and a 9.6 HR/FB% to achieve the shiny ERA, now that he's further removed from elbow surgery, there's reason to hope that the 25-year-old can improve upon his 21.6 K% to help stave off the ERA correction that might otherwise be headed his way in 2025.
