FAQs about hotels in Santa Cruz

Surfin’ USA in Bohemian CA

Santa Cruz was surf central California long before the Beach Boys sang about it. The Surfing Museum in the Mark Abbott Memorial Lighthouse tells stories of those who have braved some of the world’s best waves.

Overlooking the ocean rollers are the Coconut Grove Ballroom and Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk - the oldest amusement park in the state of CA, and the last original one on the West Coast. Its historic carousel, rollercoasters and rides are a colourful backdrop to Cowell’s Beach, best viewed from the Sky Glider cable cars.

Jutting into Monterey Bay is the wharf where sea lions bask and pelicans decide on their next meal. Seafood restaurants are abundant here and the bars provide lively nightlife. Pacific Avenue is the main shopping area and one street away is the Museum of Art & History.

Unsurprisingly for a surfer hotspot, the city has a liberal outlook and is known for political activism - a far cry from the era when the Santa Cruz Mission was established. The mission is now a state park alongside Natural Bridges Beach and the Big Basin Redwoods in forested hills behind the city, home to the gravity-defying Mystery Spot.

Booking.com’s Santa Cruz accommodation includes pet-friendly motels, hotels with hot tubs and cheap inns near UCSC.

Many High School days spent surfing in Santa Cruz, it's a great place to visit, but because it's so popular road in and out can be an issue with traffic. Lots to see and do, USCS has a great visitor area. You can see wales from the pier when they are in.

I like being 5 minutes from the Boardwalk/beach , the rooms at Comfort Inn North are decent size for the price , we always get a hot tub/jacuzzi tub room and the tub is huge! We love it here and we'll definitely be back! I strongly recommend room 210 at Comfort Inn North, it's huge! We ate at Beach Hut Deli and it was fantastic, huge sandwiches and great atmosphere. We also liked Gildas on the pier, great food and great view of the water! We love Santa Cruz❤️

Santa Cruz is a very walkable city, but good eating places...

Santa Cruz is a very walkable city, but good eating places have to be driven to as those close to the beach and Boardwalk are very touristy and very expensive. Also, the traffic near the beach area is very busy and crossing the street in crosswalks is tricky. The streets in the city are not easy to drive and follow as they are very curvy, Street signs were hard to see or find. But Santa Cruz is a great destination to get away and enjoy the ambiance of the beach life, and the sea air was wonderful!

Santa Cruz is a beautiful area.

Santa Cruz is a beautiful area. The walk along the cliffs is worth the trip. Dinner on the wharf is a must when we visit. We were born in Santa Cruz and come back every few years. The beach the cliffs the wharf it’s awesome. The only downside is the traffic. But after leaving Santa Cruz 60 years ago it growing so much is expected.

Comfortable room with two queen beds and a sofa bed. Air conditioning, plenty of power sockets (including USB charge station), and good free wifi. Beds are comfortable. Shower is decent. Standard of cleanliness is very good. Breakfast was nice and the hotel was quiet, despite being on a main street. Lots of parking, which seems reasonably secure. Within easy walking distance of downtown Santa Cruz. We also walked to the beach and boardwalk, which is a couple of miles from the hotel.

The property is on the beach in a prime location, pool area and facilities are good. However, on our last morning the hotel charged my card for somebody else's parking bill! They took an unauthorised payment of £250 and made my account overdrawn! The manager did arrange a refund and was apologetic took 5 days to go back into my account. This is unacceptable and not what I'd expect from a hotel of this standard.

Loved this hotel. Ideally located for me between the downtown area and beach. Great burrito/coffee Cafe just over the other side of the road. The pool was nice and refreshing. Very comfortable bed. Nice having a microwave and fridge, etc. I arrived by bus, which was a good walk but doable. There did seem to be local buses going past, so I guess I could have got on one of them.
