Everything was clean, we got fresh towels and bottles of water daily, the staff was very friendly, and the breakfast was included while the price was extremely reasonable!

Amazing city , You have couple of tourist destination better to plan you day early and travel guide with a taxi would be ideal as most areas are far flung from the city except the parks and museums which are closer to city

There isn't a great deal to do here.
There isn't a great deal to do here. The city has parks and the city centre is neat and tidy, so you can relax. Also November probably isn't a good month, so in the summer the parks will be in bloom. Almost nobody seems to speak English which can be frustrating when you want information about travel, for example. The Visit Shymkent offices are invariably closed (either near Shymkent Plaza or in the Grand Hotel) though if you catch one open, someone will try to help. A trip to Turkestan is just about worth the hassle but arranging transport might be difficult.MarkUnited Kingdom - Scored 1010
Lovely city with friendly people.
Lovely city with friendly people. Lots of cafes, restaurants, and ice cream vendors. It is very hot in summer, but the city is fool of parks and boulevards with trees. It is a great place to explore the south of Kazakhstan, Turkestan is 3 hours away in train.

Breakfast was fine, though the portions were rather small. As we already know Shymkent, the location was fine - good for those who want to get a taxi to Tashkent. There is a children's play area opposite the hotel, and the hotel provided my son with a bowl of porridge for breakfast. The price was good value for what you get (assuming it all works).
