Abacus recommends having Google reCAPTCHA enabled on your site registration form as this is a good security practice against spam and abuse. Whilst it does not completely eliminate spam, it offers a significant level of protection against most bots. For more information about reCAPTCHA and how it works, please follow the official Google documentation.
Generate site key and secret key
If you are an existing WVC client, it is likely the Google keys are already populated. However, if they are not, you need to obtain them first. The steps are as follows:
- Log in to Google – https://www.google.com/recaptcha/admin
- Register your site – all you have to do is add site name/label (not the same as URL), use reCAPTCHA type Challange (v2), specify the domain(s) (site URL, sub-domains are automatically included). Accept terms and Submit
- Click the settings icon and set your security preference for your site to “Most Secure”, save you selections
- Once saved, go into the account settings expand reCAPTCHA type: v2 tickbox, copy your secret and you key
That’s it!
Input keys in ADvance
Copy and paste both keys in each AD brand via ADvance> Configuration> Brands.
The Google reCAPTCHA input fields are at the very end of Branding section.
Enable reCAPTCHA on site registration
reCAPTCHA can be added to any capture form, but is normally used for registration form only.
Go to Custom Attributes> Capture forms. Tick the “Enable CAPTCHA” box in the capture form’s “Basic details”:
Click Finish.
Open the front end form URL - the Google reCAPTCHA is now output. https://account.abacuscloud.info/register
Note the AD back-end form preview cannot generate the re-captcha.
reCAPTCHA Versions
Abacus is currently using version 2 chekbox:
“reCAPTCHA v2 requires the user to click a checkbox indicating the user is not a robot. This will either pass the user immediately (with No CAPTCHA) or challenge them to validate whether or not they are human. This is the simplest option to integrate with and only requires two lines of HTML to render the checkbox.”
There is no Google-recommended or “current” version, but most businesses are still opting for version 2.

Webvision pages
reCAPTCHA is automatically output in Webvision for:
- report comment to moderator when in logged out state
- request more information directory entry when in logged out state
