Rebellion

Rebellion, uprising, or insurrection is a refusal of obedience or order. It may, therefore, be seen as encompassing a range of behaviors aimed at destroying or taking over the position of an established authority such as a government, governor, president, political leader, financial institution or boss. The methods can be peaceful, such as civil disobedience, civil resistance and nonviolent resistance, or violent, such as terrorism, sabotage and guerrila warfare. Those who participate in rebellions, especially if they are armed, are known as "rebels".

Throughout history, many different groups that opposed their governments have been called rebels. Over 450 peasant revolts erupted in southwestern France between 1590 and 1715. In the United States, the term was used for the Continentals by the British in the Revolutionary War, and for the Confederacy by the Union in the American Civil War. Most armed rebellions have not been against authority in general, but rather have sought to establish a new government in their place. For example, the Boxer Rebellion sought to implement a stronger government in China in place of the weak and divided government of the time. The Jacobite Risings (called "Jacobite Rebellions" by the government) attempted to restore the deposed Stuart kings to the thrones of England, Ireland and Scotland, rather than abolish the monarchy completely.

Uprising (2012 film)

Uprising is a 2012 documentary that traces the origins of the Egyptian Revolution of 2011 that began in January. It provides a first hand account of the early stages of revolution and follows various leaders and organizers of the movement. The film is directed and produced by Fredrik Stanton and is being distributed by Zeitgeist Films.

Synopsis

The documentary begins with coverage of the spontaneous marches against the 30 year oppressive military rule of president Hosni Mubarak. For the first time in history, organizers and activists turned to social media to voice their opinions and organize protests in Tahrir Square. Though initially a peaceful demonstration, the violence of the police charged with putting down the revolution inspired further violence on both sides as protesters continued to demand that Hosni Mubarak step down from the presidency. When the appointment of the former head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Directorate, Omar Suleiman, as Vice-President was not enough to end protests, Mubarak agreed to step down on February 11, 2011. It was decided that the military would rule for six months until elections could be held. While the film only covers the events leading up to and shortly following the end of the Mubarak regime, the revolution in Egypt continues to this day as new challenges are faced.

Uprising (Entombed album)

Uprising is the sixth full-length album by Swedish metal band Entombed. It was released in 2000. Album was recorded at Das Boot Studios and produced by Nico Elgstrand and Entombed.

Mambaí

Mambaí is a city in eastern Goiás state, Brazil. It is the easternmost city in that state.

Geography

Mambaí is one of the most isolated cities in the state of Goiás. It lies in the Vão do Paranã statistical micro-region less than 20 kilometers from the border with the state of Bahia. It is 61 kilometers to the main interstate highway, the BR-020, which links Brasília to Salvador. It is 250 kilometers to Brasília. The distance to the state capital of Goiânia is 512 kilometers. Municipal boundaries are with Posse, Buritinópolis, Damianópolis, and the state of Bahia. Highway connections from Goiânia are made by taking BR-153 / Anápolis / Alexânia / BR-060 / Planaltina / Formosa / BR-020 / Simolândia / GO-236.

Demographics

The population decreased 8.37.% from 1991 to 1996 and continued the decline from 1996 to 2000 with -4.02.%. In 1980 the population was 5,125 so in twenty-five years the increase has been negligible.

Economy

The economy was mainly based on agriculture, with extensive cattle raising occupying most of the territory. Most inhabitants were employed in small retail units, government jobs, and modest industrial transformation units. There were no banking institutions reporting in August 2007.

Fair Game (1988 film)

Fair Game (Italian: Mamba) is a 1988 Italian thriller-horror film written and directed by Mario Orfini.

Plot

After being dumped by his girlfriend Eva, who was tired of his constant negative and sexist attitude, Gene decides to take revenge killing her through a mamba, a venomous snake, to which he also injected hormones to increase its aggressiveness.

Production

The film had a budget of 4.6 million dollars. Set design was made by Ferdinando Scarfiotti, while costumes are by Milena Canonero. It was shot between Los Angeles, Cinecittà and the Mojave Desert. To reproduce the movements of the mamba, Orfini used the technique of steadicam.

Reception

The film bombed at the Italian box office, grossing only 539.521.000 lire. It was distributed in 36 foreign countries.

Mamba Pistol

The Mamba is a semi-automatic pistol developed in Rhodesia and later produced in South Africa, intended for military and police duty. It is named after the mamba.

History

The origins of the "Mamba" pistol date back to the mid-to-late 1970s in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). Rhodesia in the 1970s was facing an outright rebellion against the illegal Smith Regime that at the end took the form of the Rhodesian Bush War between the white-majority Rhodesian government and two rival communist factions, ZANU and ZAPU. Due to the war, Rhodesia struggled for years against a UN embargo. In an attempt to procure war materials, Rhodesians bought weapons from illegal traffickers and sympathetic governments. They also exploited their small domestic industry as far as it could, having their engineers come out with many designs that were later developed into functional, commercially viable weapons. Many weapons were produced in neighbouring South Africa, which was about to have UN-imposed arms sanctions as well. The Mamba pistol is an example of this as it was developed in Rhodesia and later produced in South Africa, being intended for military and police duty.
