Ride (1998 film)

Ride is a 1998 American comedy film written and directed by Millicent Shelton. The film stars Malik Yoba, Fredro Starr, and Melissa De Sousa. The film is sometimes confused with The Ride, another film released in 1998.

Plot

NYC film school graduate Leta Evans (De Sousa) has just become the assistant to hot music video director Bleau Kelly (Downtown Julie Brown). She almost loses the job before her first day's barely even started when Bleau decides budget cuts must be made for her next project. When Leta offers to do the assignment for a smaller fee, Bleau decides to have her escort a group of rappers, singers, and showbiz wanna-be's to Miami for a video shoot. The gang, which is kept in line by Poppa (Yoba), gets acquainted on a decaying bus as they travel down the East Coast, encountering barroom fights and other problems en route to the video gig.

Ride (Ciara song)

"Ride" is a song performed by American recording artist Ciara. The song features American rapper Ludacris. It was co-written by Ciara, Ludacris, Tricky Stewart, and The-Dream, and produced by the latter two. The song serves as the lead single from her fourth studio album, Basic Instinct. The song was first released for digital download on April 23, 2010. "Ride" is a down-tempo R&B song, featuring a heavy bass line and seductive tone.

The song received generally positive reviews from critics, complimenting the song's toned-down production. It reached three on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs in the United States, becoming Ciara's twelfth top ten hit on the chart. The accompanying music video features sexually charged, provocative choreography, and therefore was not aired on BET, and banned from UK music channels. The official remix features André 3000 and Bei Maejor in addition to Ludacris.

Background

Jive Records spoke exclusively to Rap Up magazine on March 29, 2010 to confirm that Ciara would be releasing a new song called "Ride" featuring Ludacris. It is the fourth time that the two artists have collaborated: the first being 2005's "Oh", second being 2009's "High Price" and the third being the 2010 remix to Ludacris' single "How Low".

"Ride" is a song recorded by American singer SoMo. The song serves as the lead single from his debut self-titled studio album, SoMo. It was written by SoMo with Donald Tarpley, and produced by the latter. The song was released on December 7, 2013 by Republic Records.

Ride reached a peak of number 76 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and number 20 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. The song's music video was released on January 17, 2014.

The song's official remix features new verses by Ty Dolla Sign and K Camp.

"Ride is written in the key of G♯ minor with a slow tempo of 58 beats per minute. The song follows a chord progression of Emaj7 – Bsus2 – D♯m7 – C♯m7, and SoMo's vocals span from F♯₃ to D♯₆.

Chase Rice version

American bro-country singer Chase Rice recorded a version of "Ride" which was a bonus track on his album Ignite the Night. The version was recorded after Rice jokingly tweeted SoMo a Photoshopped cover of his face on SoMo's album, and SoMo tweeted back that Rice should record a country version of the song. This version reached No. 38 on the Hot Country Songs chart, and has sold 413,000 copies in the US as of February 2016.

Delta Machine

Delta Machine is the thirteenth studio album by English electronic music band Depeche Mode, released on 22 March 2013 by Columbia Records and Mute Records. Recorded in 2012 in Santa Barbara, California and New York City, the album was produced by Ben Hillier and mixed by Flood. A deluxe edition was also released, containing a bonus disc with four bonus tracks, as well as a 28-page hardcover book including photos by Anton Corbijn.

"Heaven" was released as the album's lead single on 31 January 2013. The second single from the album, "Soothe My Soul", was released on 10 May 2013. followed by "Should Be Higher" on 11 October 2013. Following the album's release, Depeche Mode embarked on the Delta Machine Tour, which kicked off in Nice, France on 4 May 2013, and wrapped up in Moscow on 7 March 2014.

Background and composition

According to Dave Gahan, Delta Machine marks the end of the trilogy of records that Depeche Mode were recording with producer Ben Hillier.

The album is Martin Gore and Gahan's thematic continuation to a dark, gloomy and bluesy aesthetic that Depeche Mode had started to explore in the late 1980s. The Quietus writer Luke Turner viewed it as the band's "most powerful, gothic, twisted, electronic album since Violator".

The superstition can also be referenced when talking about a future event with too much confidence. A statement such as "We're sure to win the contest!" can be seen as a jinx because it tempts fate, thereby bringing bad luck. The event itself is referred to as "jinxed".

In a similar way, calling attention to good fortune – e.g. noting that a certain athlete is having a streak of particularly good fortune – is thought to "jinx" it. If the good fortune ends immediately afterward, the jinx is then blamed for the turn of events, often seriously.

Jinx (band)

Jinx is a Croatian pop band from Zagreb which was formed in 1993.

They began their career under the name "High Jinx" coming from a concert in a Zagreb night-club Saloon.

The members of Jinx are guitarist Coco Mosquito, vocalist Jadranka Bastajic Yaya, drummer Berko Muratovic, keyboardist Mr. Goody, trumpet player Igor Pavlica and bassist Adam Matijasevic. Former members of the band are Goony, Kiky the Kid, bassist Samir Kadribasic, trumpet player Rudi and saxophone player Jordes.

The prefix "High" was dropped in 1995, since all fans who attended their first gigs referred to them solely as Jinx. Their first album, Sextasy, was released in English. Berko and Samir joined the band in 1996. In 1997, Jinx signed their first record contract with Aquarius Records and released their second album called Second Hand. In 2001, Percussionist Boris Popov joined the band.

Jinx disbanded in 2002 and made a comeback in 2007 with the album Na zapadu (In the West), having signed with Dallas Records.

Jinx (Cabot novel)

Jinx is a 2007 young adult novel by American author Meg Cabot. The novel has darker themes than Cabot's earlier best-selling The Princess Diaries series of novels.

Plot summary

Jean "Jinx" Honeychurch is a sixteen-year-old girl from Iowa. Being certain that she was born with bad luck, she goes to stay with her Aunt Evelyn and Uncle Ted in Manhattan, New York because her ex-boyfriend is stalking her. Her cousin Tory is convinced that Jean must join her coven of witches to add to the power. Jean denies being a witch, and refuses to join them. This angers Tory, causing her to seek payback. Jean also meets a guy both she and Tory have affection for, Zack. This along with the witch thing puts Tory in a blind rage and she decides to plot against Jinx in more ways than the walls of the preppy school of Chapman where they all attend high school. At a school dance Tory flys jeans ex to town, which sends Jean into a panic attack. She then returnes home and Tory ties Jean up to cut her and drink her blood and take Jean's powers. Zack come out and rescues Jean, who then exposes Tory for what she really is. Then Tory is sent to boot camp and Jean and Zack end up dating.
