Noel Jones

Noel Jones (Pentecostal bishop)

Noel Jones (born January 31, 1950) is an American minister. He is the senior pastor of the City of Refuge Church in Gardena, California, which has about 17,000 members and was formerly the Greater Bethany Community Church.

Early life

Jones was born in Spanish Town, Jamaica on January 31, 1950. One of seven children born to Bishop Robert (who was a politician and Apostolic clergyman) and Marjorie Jones. He was raised alongside a diverse array of siblings (one of whom is the actress and singer Grace Jones). His parents took him and his two siblings at the time, Chris and Grace, and relocated to Syracuse, New York in 1965.

Early education and ministry

Jones received the call to ministry at the age of nineteen. He attended St. Jago High School and went on to attain a Bachelor of Science in Theology degree from Aenon Bible College. He would go on later to receive his doctorate from the International Circle of Faith. At the age of twenty-six, he accepted his first pastorate at Bethel Temple of Longview in Longview, Texas.

Noël Jones (bishop of Sodor and Man)

Noël Debroy Jones CB (25 December 1932 – 28 August 2009) was an Anglican bishop. He was the Bishop of Sodor and Man in the Church of England.

Jones was born in Wales and educated at St David's College, Lampeter. He studied for ordination at Wells Theological College and then held curacies at St James' Tredegar and St Mark's Newport. He was the vicar of Kano in Nigeria from 1960 to 1962. He then joined the Royal Navy as a chaplain and was deployed to Brunei and Borneo. He also completed a commando course prior to service in Aden with 42 Commando in 1967. He also served in Saudi Arabia and as Staff Chaplain at the Ministry of Defence before, in 1984, becoming Chaplain of the Fleet and Archdeacon for the Royal Navy as well being made a Companion of the Order of the Bath.

In 1989 Jones left the navy and was appointed Bishop of Sodor and Man. During his time as bishop he had an ex officio seat in the Legislative Council and was a member of the Department of Education and the War Pensions Committee as well as being a trustee of King William's College. In 2003 he stood down as the diocesan bishop. He died on 28 August 2009.
