Kabaddi

Kabaddi is a contact sport that originated in Ancient India. Kabaddi is an umbrella term which encompasses various forms of the game including International rules Kabaddi, and the Indian Kabaddi styles – Sanjeevani, Gaminee, Amar and Punjabi. Kabaddi also encompasses similar sports known by their regional names, such as hadudu in Bangladesh, baibalaa in Maldives, chedugudu in Andhra Pradesh, sadugudu in Tamil Nadu and hututu in Maharashtra.

Kabaddi is the national game of Bangladesh and also the state game of the Indian states of Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Punjab.India is the most successful team on the world stage, having won every World Cup and Asian Games title so far, in both men's and women's categories.

Etymology

There is no consensus as to the origins of the word Kabaddi. The word Kabaddi might have been derived from the Tamil word "kai-pidi" (கைபிடி) meaning "to hold hands". However, the word might have been prevalent in North India.

History

Kabaddi (2013 film)

Kabaddi (Nepali: कबड्डी) is a 2013 Nepali film directed by Ram Babu Gurung that portrays the story of love triangle among three central characters. The film was produced by Raunak Bikram Kandel, Nischal Basnet and Sunil Rauniyar starring himself (Nischal Basnet), Dayahang Rai, Rishma gurung and Rajan Khatiwada. The film was released on April 25, 2013 making it one of the hit films of the year. Its sequel named Kabaddi Kabaddi has also been released on 27th of November 2015 with generally positive reviews from the audience.

Plot

Kazi, a third standard failed young man from Mustang dreams of marrying Maiya, daughter of his maternal uncle by any means. Maiya, on the other hand, student of high school is peeved by his idiotic behaviors, which always disappoints Kazi but never disheartens him. Supported by his two childhood friends Beekay and Chantyal, finally he decides to marry Maiya through capture marriage, which is illegal but still practiced by some ethnic communities in Mustang, Nepal. To find her long gone father and to continue her studies in Kathmandu, Maiya elopes with a visitor named Bibek. Inflamed by her disappearance, Kazi heads to Kathmandu in search of Maiya and finds himself trapped in a city conspiracy. Bibek turns out to be a broken man trying to take revenge against Maiya's father. Though Kazi at last succeeds in getting Maiya safely back home but the duos love story still fails to move forward with Maiya attending high-school and Kazi waiting outside the school with a bouquet as usual

Kabaddi (2009 film)

Kabaddi (ಕಬಡ್ಡಿ) is a 2009 Kannada sports drama film directed by Narendra Babu. Produced by G K Ravi, K Raju, G Kishor Kumar, Anup Gowda, N Asha and D V Rajendra Prasad under the banner of Khandaya haagu Vistara and has music by Hamsalekha. The film stars Praveen and Priyanka in the lead roles, It features real life Kabaddi plays as important roles, while veteran actor Kishore played the role of a passionate sports coach. The directorial debut film, is a love story based around the sport of Kabaddi. Though it didn't perform well at the box office, critics named it one of the top Kannada films of 2009.

At 2009 Karnataka State Film Awards, it won the award for Best First Film.
