In the Hot Seat

In The Hot Seat is the ninth and final studio album by progressive rock band Emerson, Lake & Palmer, released in 1994. During the album's recording, Keith Emerson suffered medical problems with the nerves in his right hand, which made it difficult for him to play the keyboards. The tensions between him and Greg Lake surfaced again during this album. "Daddy" was written in memory of missing child Sara Anne Wood and used to raise awareness of missing children.

The album was recorded at Goodnight L.A. Studios in Los Angeles, California and engineered by Brian Foraker & Keith Olsen.

Hot Seat (game show)

Hot Seat is an American game show which aired on ABC from July 12 to October 22, 1976. The series was created by Heatter-Quigley Productions, which at this point were best known for creating Gambit and The Hollywood Squares.

Jim Peck was the host, with Heatter-Quigley veteran Kenny Williams as the announcer.

Game play

Two married couples played against each other one at a time. One of the spouses had to guess what the other would say when asked a round of three questions.

The spouse sitting in the "hot seat" would have their emotions measured by an electronic GSR device. Each question would have two choices. The player at the podium would select one answer and the spouse would respond to each choice with a negative response. The arch above the "hot seat" would feature a meter which indicated which answer was more of a lie; the answer that was the most true (the one which had the most lights lit up) was considered the correct answer.

The three questions were worth $100, $200, and $400. The couple with the most money at the end of the show could take either an additional $500 or play the bonus round for a trip and a new car. Whichever option was not chosen went to their opponents.

Hardball

Hardball is the G.I. Joe Team's multi-shot grenadier. His real name is Wilmer S. Duggleby, and his rank is that of corporal E-4. Hardball was born in Cooperstown, New York, and was first released as an action figure in 1988.

Hardball's primary military specialty is infantry, and his secondary military specialty is special services. Hardball played centerfield in the minor leagues for five seasons before he realized that the big league scouts were looking for star quality over athletic prowess. The G.I. Joe Team was looking for team players however, and had a need for someone who could judge distances accurately and react quickly with deliberation.

In the Marvel Comics G.I. Joe series, he first appeared in issue #80 (November 1988). Hardball is later selected as one of the many Joes to help protect the President of the United States. His skills are vital to rescuing the President after he is kidnapped by Cobra forces. He later mans a machine-gun turret in the Joe vehicle called "The Mean Dog" that had been headed out to a weapons testing range. Hardball, Repeater and Wildcard assist in a running battle against Dreadnoks, who are trying to capture two other Joes, Clutch and Rock 'n Roll.

Hot Seat (talk show)

Hot Seat is a Saturday late night syndicated, politically oriented, though often satirical and comedic television talk-show that began in the early 1980s, hosted by conservative commentator Wally George. It was shot in the studios of KDOC, a UHF television station licensed to (and, at the time, having their studios in) Anaheim, California. The first edition of the series aired on Saturday July 16, 1983.

Overview

George hosted the show sitting behind a desk and wearing a red, white, and blue necktie, and his completely white hair in a curious comb over. Behind him was a photo of a space shuttle launching with the caption that read, "USA Is #1."

Each episode was videotaped before a live audience on Wednesday night, as stated on the show by Wally himself. The tape was then reviewed by the production staff and network, before it could be edited and finalized for air three days later on Saturday night.

Originally only seen locally, the show gained national attention on the November 5, 1983 episode, when a self-proclaimed pacifist named Blase Bonpane, who was discussing his opposition of the U.S. invasion of Grenada, suddenly erupted in anger over George's taunts, flipped over the host's desk and stormed off the show. A clip of the altercation aired on national news programs, and attracted attention from program directors at TV stations nationwide, leading to syndication.
