The Hypomania Checklist (HCL-32) is a questionnaire developed by Dr. Jules Angst to identify hypomanic components in patients with major depressive disorder in order to help clinicians diagnose bipolar II disorder and other bipolar spectrum disorders presented in psychiatric and general medical practice. The development of a final and potentially shorter multi-lingual version with established cut-off scores for hypomania is a secondary goal.
Development and history
The HCL-32 was developed as a more useful method to test hypomania and essentially aid in epidemiological research. The test itself was made a self-assessment screening internment.
The Hypomania Checklist was developed because attempts to screen for bipolar focused on the identifying individuals at risk for developing mood disorders in non-clinical populations. The measures were specifically for personality and did not address the episodic nature of hypomania and potential negative consequences of any changes in behavior, affect and cognition.
The compoundhydrogen chloride has the chemical formulaHCl. At room temperature, it is a colorless gas, which forms white fumes of hydrochloric acid upon contact with atmospheric humidity. Hydrogen chloride gas and hydrochloric acid are important in technology and industry. Hydrochloric acid, the aqueous solution of hydrogen chloride, is also commonly given the formula HCl.
Chemistry
Hydrogen chloride is a diatomic molecule, consisting of a hydrogenatom H and a chlorine atom Cl connected by a covalentsingle bond. Since the chlorine atom is much more electronegative than the hydrogen atom, the covalent bond between the two atoms is quite polar. Consequently, the molecule has a large dipole moment with a negative partial charge δ− at the chlorine atom and a positive partial charge δ+ at the hydrogen atom. In part because of its high polarity, HCl is very soluble in water (and in other polar solvents).
