Danville is a home rule-class city in Boyle County, Kentucky, in the United States. It is the seat of its county. The population was 16,218 at the 2010 census. Danville is the principal city of the Danville Micropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Boyle and Lincoln counties.

In 2001, Danville received a Great American Main Street Award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. In 2011, Money magazine placed Danville as the fourth-best place to retire in the United States. Danville has recently been twice chosen to host U.S. Vice-Presidential debates, in 2000 and in 2012.

Danville is a town in Center Township, Hendricks County, Indiana, United States. The population was 9,001 at the 2010 census. The town is the county seat of Hendricks County.

History

Danville was founded in 1824, and was named after either Daniel Clark, justice of the peace, or for the brother of Judge William Watson Wick. The Danville post office was established in 1825. Danville was incorporated as a town in 1835.

According to the 2010 census, Danville has a total area of 6.98 square miles (18.08 km²), of which 6.93 square miles (17.95 km²) (or 99.28%) is land and 0.05 square miles (0.13 km²) (or 0.72%) is water.

As of the census of 2010, there were 9,001 people, 3,344 households, and 2,398 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,298.8 inhabitants per square mile (501.5/km²). There were 3,589 housing units at an average density of 517.9 per square mile (200.0/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 96.8% White, 0.8% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.4% from other races, and 1.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.8% of the population.
