Columbiana, Ohio

Columbiana is a city in Columbiana and Mahoning counties in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 6,384 at the 2010 census.

The Columbiana County portion of Columbiana is part of the Salem, OH Micropolitan Statistical Area, while the Mahoning County portion is part of the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman, OH-PA Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Columbiana was laid out by Joshua Dixon in 1805. Columbiana had a railroad and three stores by 1831. Columbiana was incorporated as a village in 1837. The village officially became a city in 2000.

Columbiana was the birthplace of Harvey S. Firestone, who founded the Firestone rubber company in Akron, Ohio. There is still a Firestone tractor-tire test facility a few miles northeast of the city, and many town facilities are named after him. Columbiana is also known for the Shaker Woods Festival, held annually in August, which features some of the best crafters and artisans in the country. Another major town event is the Columbiana Street Fair, a civic festival hosted by American Legion Post #290. It is held the Thursday - Saturday following Labor Day.

Colombiana

Colombiana is a 2011 French action film, co-written and produced by Luc Besson and directed by Olivier Megaton. The film stars Zoe Saldana in the lead role with supporting roles performed by Michael Vartan, Cliff Curtis, Lennie James, Callum Blue, and Jordi Mollà.

Plot

In 1992, Bogota, Colombia, Fabio Restrepo (Jesse Borrego) has key information about drug lord Don Luis Sandoval (Beto Benites). However, Don Luis fears that Fabio will be putting a hit on them, so he sends his henchman Marco (Jordi Mollà) to kill him. Fabio gives his nine-year-old daughter Cataleya (Amandla Stenberg) the information Don Luis wants and tells her it's her "passport"; he also gives her the address of her uncle Emilio (Cliff Curtis), a criminal in Chicago, who will take care of her if she finds herself alone. The last thing he gives her is something that will keep her safe: his mother's cattleya orchid necklace. After saying their goodbyes, Fabio and his wife Alicia (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) leave to battle Marco and his men but both of them are gunned down as Cataleya listens from the kitchen. Marco tries to manipulate her into giving the information; when he asks what she wants, she stabs him in the hand with a kitchen knife, replies "To kill Don Luis", and escapes. She safely makes it to the U.S. Embassy and gives the Embassy the information in exchange for a passport and passage to the United States. She escapes the airport through the bathroom and takes a bus to Chicago. Once she finds Emilio, Cataleya asks him to train her as a killer.
