Bromance

A bromance is a close, emotionally intense, non-sexual bond between two (or more) men. It is an exceptionally tight affectional, homosocial male bonding relationship that exceeds that of usual friendship, that is distinguished by a particularly high level of emotional intimacy. The emergence of the concept since the beginning of the 21st century has been seen as reflecting a change in societal perception and interest in the theme, with an increasing openness of society in the twenty-first century to reconsider gender, sexuality, and exclusivity constraints.

Etymology

Bromance is a portmanteau of bro or brother and romance. Dave Carnie is credited with coining the term as editor of the skateboard magazine Big Brother in the 1990s to refer specifically to the sort of relationships that develop between skaters who spent a great deal of time together. The term did not attain broad currency until approximately 2005 when the theme became more prominent in the motion picture industry.

Bromance (Chinese: 愛上哥們; pinyin: Ài Shàng Gēmen) is a 2015 Taiwanese romantic comedy television series starring Baron Chen, Megan Lai, Bii, Sean Lee and Yuan Chen. Filming began on September 19, 2015 and the first original broadcast began on October 18, 2015. Replacing When I See You Again (Chinese: 他看她的第2眼; pinyin: Tā Kàn Tā de Dì 2 Yǎn), it airs on TTV every Sunday night at 10:00–11:30 pm.

Synopsis

Pi Ya Nuo (Megan Lai) had an inauspicious start to her life, and now awaits her 26th birthday. When she was born 25 years ago, her parents and extended family and their fortune teller, eagerly awaited her arrival in the delivery room so that they could bless the beginning of the Pi family's heir. Upon hearing her first cry, the fortune teller predicted on the spot that the baby boy would grow up to be a great success and a natural-born leader. But when the nurses announced that the baby was a girl, the stunned fortune teller immediately announced that the girl would not survive her childhood unless she lived as a boy for the first 25 years of her life. Only then could Ya Nuo change her bad fate and bring prosperity to her family. On her 26th birthday, Ya Nuo could go back to her true gender without any repercussions. Doomed to live her life as a boy, Ya Nuo was shy and always tried to keep her distance to people to hide her true identity, and the mysterious aloofness made her irresistible to the girls around her. One day, she accidentally helped out Du Zi Feng (Baron Chen), who happened to be a triad leader, and his sister, Du Zi Han (Mandy Tao). While Zi Han fell in love with Ya Nuo, Zi Feng became Ya Nuo's "sworn brother" and best friend. With her 26th birthday fast approaching, will Ya Nuo find her much-anticipated return to being a female will be as easy as she had hoped?

Bromance (TV series)

Bromance is an American reality television series that originally aired on MTV from December 29, 2008 until February 2, 2009. It was developed as a spin-off of The Hills, and aired one six-episode season. The series focused on Brody Jenner, who appeared in its predecessor, and enlisted nine men to compete for the opportunity to win a close male friendship ("bromance") with him.

On February 2, 2009, it was revealed on air that Jenner had chosen Luke Verge as his new best friend. Along with Jenner's friendship and a spot in his entourage, Verge won a one year, rent-free stay in a fully furnished penthouse in downtown Los Angeles and a new Scion.
