Avessalom
Avessalom (Russian: Авессало́м) is a Russian male first name. It is a colloquial form of Avesalom (Авесало́м), which is used in Biblical context and is derived from the Biblical Hebrew 'abšālōm, meaning the father of peace. Another form of the name, Absalon (Абсало́н)—after the Danish archbishop Absalon who imposed Christianity on the Wendish people—was included into various, often handwritten, church calendars throughout the 17th–19th centuries. It was omitted from the official Synodal Menologium at the end of the 19th century.
