About the project
The National Archives of Norway (Riksarkivaren) and the Genealogy Society of Norway (DIS-Norge) are jointly responsible for a project that aims to present the descendants of all the “Men of Eidsvoll” (the delegates at the 1814 Constitutional Assembly at Eidsvoll), no matter where in the world they are today.
The descendants of the “Men of Eidsvoll” will be presented in a database on the website www.eidsvollsmenn.no. This website is part of the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Constitution. The National Archives of Norway is responsible for keeping a back-up of the database, while the Genealogy Society of Norway is responsible for overseeing and organising the voluntary genealogists.
Up until January 2013, groups of volunteers in Norway have each “adopted” one of the “Men of Eidsvoll” and registered genealogical information in digital genealogy programmes. The results have then been exported to the website www.eidsvollsmenn.no, and the database has then been through a quality assurance process. As of May 2013 there are around 45 000 names in the database, but there are still a lot missing, and for 17 of the “Men of Eidsvoll” we have no information about their descendants.
Perhaps you would like to participate in the project? If so, send an email to [email protected] and ask for user rights to the website. The website allows you to switch between the languages Norwegian, English and German in the fixed menus and headings, while the information in free text is only given in the language in which it was entered. You can enter information in the language of your choice.
Neither the National Archives of Norway nor the Genealogy Society of Norway can bear responsibility for the accuracy of all the information on the website www.eidsvollsmenn.no. However, with the continued assistance of volunteers, we hope that we can provide information that is as correct and detailed as possible.
