Career and personal development for R1-R3* Researchers

We are the central institution for strategic researcher development for early- and mid-career researchers (EMCRs) from doctoral studies to assistant professorships. The personal and professional development of our researchers at all career stages is our obligation and an expression of the University of Tübingen's supportative culture.

* R1-R3 refers to the European Framework for Research Careers. R1 includes doctoral students, R2 researchers with a completed doctorate (postdocs) and R3 researchers with a completed doctorate who are already conducting independent research or leading a research group (e.g. Junior Professor, Research Group Leader).

We offer a comprehensive high-quality range of information and advice, trainings and networking services for the following target groups: Those interested in doing a PhD, doctoral researchers, postdocs, junior research group leaders and junior professors, as well as international researchers.

We advise applicants on the appropriate design of early- and mid-career researcher funding formats. We design and coordinate the university-wide researcher development concept. The European Commission's HR Excellence in Research Award (formerly: HRS4R) is also part of our responsibilities.

We are located in the University's Research Division and are assigned to the Vice President for Sustainable Development. We gather input from the faculties' doctoral offices which helps us to design services in response to demand.
