🔬We’ve just published a new #OpenAccess paper we think you’ll find interesting "Investigation of sedimentary rocks and grains in the round: Micron-scale SEM-BEX 360° and 3D imaging" by jim buckman. Figure 5 from Dr Buckman's paper shows six still images taken from three-hundred-and-sixty-degree rotating BEX image rendered video of sand grains glued to steel pin. Purple = quartz, blue and green = feldspars or clays, pink = steel pin. The paper is free-to-read here > https://lnkd.in/e8CtGFk3 Royal Microscopical Society Michelle Peckham

Get ready to dive into the captivating world of coral reefs for this week's #UnderTheMicroscopeMonday 🔎🔬 & discover the fascinating data we acquired at each stage of analysis, giving us a complete picture of the components in a coral reef fragment sample. No sample preparation or coatings - we imaged and analysed it as is. The results reveal the presence of diatoms, tiny single-celled organisms with a cell wall made of silicon dioxide, as shown in the Si EDS map (blue). The coral reef substrate, rich in calcium, stands out in the Ca EDS map (green). #EnergyDispersiveXraySpectroscopy #EnergyDispersiveSpectrometry

Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD) enables microstructural characterisation, but analysis is equally important. EBSD data reveals microstructures and material properties, with increasing interest in strain analysis to improve industrial processes such as machining, cold or hot rolling, and annealing or recrystallisation mechanisms. Don’t forget to register for our upcoming webinar, where EBSD Product Manager Dr. Mark Coleman will introduce the latest upgrades in AZtecCrystal 3.3, including Strain Analysis tools, enhancements to the Particle Analysis tool, MapSweeper speed improvements and more. This week's #UnderTheMicroscopeDay 🔎🔬 features a sample of diabase (altered dolerite, microgabbro) from the Island of Jabuka in Croatia. Jabuka is an uninhabited volcanic island in the Adriatic Sea. It, along with Brusnik, are the only two Croatian islands completely of volcanic 🌋 origin, formed from volcanic eruptions. Dolerites/microgabbros contain minerals such as plagioclase, pyroxene (augite), and olivine, but they may also contain small amounts of ilmenite, magnetite, titanite, and apatite. To discover what we learned from analysing this sample using Unity and layering it with Backscattered Electron and X-ray (BEX), check out our recent blog ➡️https://okt.to/92IZw5 #GeologicalSampleAnalysis #GeologicalAnalysis #BackscatteredElectronXray #SciArt

Are you looking to get the most out of EBSD analysis with AZtecCrystal 3.3❓ Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD) is a powerful tool for microstructural characterisation, but data acquisition is only half the story. EBSD data sets can be analysed and used to investigate microstructures in myriad ways, including inferring material properties. In our new webinar, EBSD Product Manager Mark Coleman will introduce the latest upgrades in AZtecCrystal 3.3, including Strain Analysis tools, improvements to the Particle Analysis tool and MapSweeper speed improvements. Backscattered Electron and X-ray (BEX) imaging is the combined acquisition of backscattered electron and EDS X-ray data in a scanning electron microscope 🔬 It provides fast and automated mapping across a large area, collecting compositional and ultrastructural data without the need for specimen preparation or imaging. In our latest webinar now available on-demand, Pedro Machado demonstrates how we characterised biodegradable bone implants and analysed a lichen sample using BEX imaging, delivering automated mapping that's 10x faster than conventional methods. Watch on-demand now 👉 https://okt.to/XlrSOQ #BEXImaging #BackscatteredElectron #Imaging #MicroAnalysis
