One of the essential ingredients to delivering a successful succession plan within your business is leadership training. And I recommend my clients to start the knowledge transfer and development process by getting potential successors to take one of the Chartered Management Institute courses. Incorporate their progress into the development plan. Build in some Iindependent coaching too. Use the subjects they cover to dive deeper into your business, not just making it relevant but also to develop that leadership perspective by standing in your shoes. New research from HR software and services provider ADP's "People at Work 2024: A Global Workforce View" report reveals a worrying skills gap in the UK. More than half of global workers lack confidence in their employer's commitment to skill development. In the UK, only 39% of employees believe their company invests adequately in the skills needed for career advancement. This issue is acute among 18-24-year-olds, with only 39% feeling equipped to progress in their careers over the next three years. As #technology and #AI become more integral, 41% of UK employees believe future skillsets will require currently non-essential technological abilities. In the battle to find & keep the right talent in a business, understanding how to identify & develop the potential we already have is critical. Some interesting research from Gallup here - only around 1 in 5 employees believe their performance is managed & their potential developed in a way that inspires them to do their best at work. How much more productive & competitive could we be if we got that process right more of the time?
