In the words of the famous philosopher, Jeremy Clarkson.... "I did a thing!" Over the past 6 months, I've taken investment in my own development up a notch and completed the award winning and fully International Coaching Federation accredited AstraZeneca 'Leader as Coach' programme. It was an immersive and enlightening experience where, along with a small cohort of other AZ leaders from across the world, I built and learnt to flex new leadership muscles and it's now clear to me how critical coaching is as a future capability for all leaders. I took away so much but to pick my top 5 points on the impact of a coaching culture: 1. Empowers others - encourages colleagues, peers and team members to find their own solutions and make decisions, fostering independence and confidence. 2. Boosts Employee Engagement - involves active listening and personalised feedback, which makes employees feel valued and understood. 3. World Mental Health Day is celebrated every year on 10 October. This year’s theme set by the World Federation of Mental Health is workplace mental health. The theme highlights the importance of addressing mental health and wellbeing in the workplace, for the benefit of people, organisations, and communities. There are many things that contribute to a mentally healthy workplace, from providing staff training on mental health to tackling discrimination and bullying. It’s an exciting time in respiratory medicine, with momentum growing around innovative approaches to care. High unmet need remains in chronic respiratory diseases like asthma and COPD, which impact an estimated 550 million people globally.
