This story is great to see - https://lnkd.in/d4PyFxBi - that a British council has scheduled wargames, and that in relation to cyber those wargames are mentioned in the same short article in relation to wider emergency planning. As the CrowdStrike outage shows, technology is now so tightly integrated the default should be to consider its impact in all areas of our lives. Path Dependence Limited and our associates can put these kind of wargames together for you, as can other suppliers. I can help you figure out kind of wargame you need, or help you find the right supplier - and what to ask them - if it's not us. But do follow Cheshire East Council's example - get something scheduled, even if it's just an introductory conversation; this is kind of task that it's easy to postpone, until something happens and you wish you hadn't. A fantastic episode with Paul Evans, CEO of Carlisle Support Services, as he joins Gary Twining-Wright and I, to discuss how we secure the future of the security sector. Pauls recent appointment as a vice-chair for the United Kingdom Crowd Management Association, and his role as a football referee, amongst many other experiences, gives him a unique perspective on the sector and what we need to do to deliver effective change. This is a fun, honest, and engaging conversation, covering wages, contracts, training, and the role we can all play in shifting the dial towards a more professional industry. It's great to hear him speak of his hopes for Operation Benchmark – led by the Security Industry Authority Director of Inspections and Enforcement, Paul Fullwood. A subject discussed on previous shows with Ronnie Megaughin, Anne Marie Chebib BA (Hons), PGDip, and the inimitable Michael Kill. Gary and I get as sense of deja-vu, when Paul suggests a DVLA style external exam might be a way forward if we’re to stop rogue training providers, effectively marking their own homework. An idea which Author, and L&D guru Nick Shackleton-Jones felt was a good idea when we suggested it to him on a previous show. But perhaps the most telling moment was hearing him echo fellow CEO Paul Eeles, CBII, Chartered FCIPD, of Skills and Education Group & BIIAB comments about what keeps him up at night. The essence being, that something goes wrong which could have been avoided, which has the potential of a catastrophic outcome for his staff, the company and most of all public safety. NCSC Funded Cyber Essentials Programme Small organisations from specific sectors in the UK are being offered practical support to achieve Cyber Essentials Plus at no cost to the organisation. Opportunity Details Applications open until funding is used up; organisations will be contacted directly after they apply. Award Practical support from an Advisor to achieve Cyber Essentials Plus (does not include the cost of any additional software or hardware identified by the Advisor that is required to achieve Cyber Essential Plus), around 20 hours of remote support with an Advisor, and hands-on technical verification. For those sectors most at risk – specifically quantum, AI, semiconductors, engineering biology / synthetic biology, advanced materials, advanced robotics, fusion energy and space/satellites – the UK Government National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is launching a Funded Cyber Essentials Programme. The training is from the NCSC’s delivery partner, IASME. This scheme aims to provide vulnerable organisations with help to implement baseline security controls to prevent the most common types of cyber attack.
