This is a great summary of the differences between KCSIE 2023 and 2024. You can still access my training on Statutory Safeguarding Priorities for Special Schools on The National College where I go through last years priorities particularly focusing on extra levels of vulnerability and serious case reviews. https://lnkd.in/evbmvHU4 https://lnkd.in/eBTSmyFs However, I'm frustrated with the deliberate exclusion of race in KCSIE, in particular the impact racial abuse and race based bullying has on mental health. Nic Bailey, Ann Marie Christian FRSA and I had great chats about this for BAMEed SEND termly talks. The NSPCC have released something around this- https://lnkd.in/ejSbzKvw They highlight that there are disparities in how children from different backgrounds come to the attention of child protection services due to racism and bias. When the needs of children and young people are deliberately ignored, they suffer long term harm and in sad cases, preventable deaths are not stopped. Wow! This piece by Katherine Howard FCCT needs to be read by middle and senior leaders. Without effective line management, we can’t help support, motivate, develop and empower colleagues we lead. An effective line manager can support colleagues in thinking strategically, developing a range of skills, achieving goals for themselves, the students and their teams. They also allow space for radical candor and accountable conversations. I know schools where there is no training for leaders on developing effective LM and so therefore there is an inconsistent approach at best and a biased approach at worst. This piece by Kat really helps to explain what an effective LM might look like with resources shared at the end to support this. Thank you Kat!
