We definitely need to move to making our pensions funded, and recycle these funds into the local economy to drive growth and invest in the services we need. We also agree that we need many more suitable financial products for pensioners to supplement their incomes, equity release is one but there are others such as retirement interest only mortgages, and hybrid variants. These need to be funded by the pension savings, and Solvency UK should be a good step forward to make this happen. Other countries already connect the pension savings with the mortgage market, Perenna will be the enabler in the UK. #mortgages #laterlifelending #equityrelease

This update from the FCA about how to explain commissions to consumers should be a must read for lenders and brokers. The FCA references the Consumer Duty to illustrate its expectations in making sure communications are designed to engage consumers, including vulnerable consumers, and customer understanding can be assessed through appropriate testing.

🆕 REPORT: A monthly gauge of confidence levels among UK business.   Managing Director for Relationship Management, Business & Commercial Banking Paul Gordon says, "The last three months saw confidence unchanged at 42% as businesses adjusted to the economic environment. That consistency has been followed up by a marked increase in confidence in May with improved scores for trading prospects, economic outlook and hiring intentions. Invest 2035, the UK government’s new modern industrial strategy, has real significance for the financial services sector - rightly recognised as one of the UK’s “greatest assets as an economy”. The Green Paper is a vote of confidence in financial services’ ability to drive growth, support consumers, empower the Net Zero transition and champion the country’s competitive export potential. Indeed, the 2021 Kalifa Review noted that the UK accounts for around 10% of global market share for fintech, with revenues forecast to more than triple over the course of this decade. I’m looking forward to working further with my colleagues at Centre for Finance, Innovation and Technology (CFIT) to unlock the huge potential for financial innovation, and the resulting economic growth, that is stored in our cities, regions and nations.

Looks like the Co-op Bank will be owned by a mutual rather than hedge fund investors. Be interesting to see if Membership of Coventry Building Society extends to Co-op Bank customers. Although it looks like the Co-operative Bank name may disappear in time, at least it will again be defined by its ownership as part of the co-op movement. Since the hedge fund takeover, The Co-op Bank had still stuck to an ethical policy and supported the co-op movement with valuable funding for Co-operatives UK co-op business support programmes.
