The 88% Perspective: A Call for Global Cultural Synthesis We find ourselves at a crucial juncture in the grand tapestry of human civilisation. The dominant narrative of our world has long been shaped by a minority - the 12% representing Western civilisation. Yet, this narrative overlooks the rich tapestry of human experience embodied by the remaining 88% of the global population. Despite its minority #population status, the Western world has wielded an outsized influence on global affairs, media, and cultural narratives. This influence, while significant, does not negate the profound wisdom and cultural richness found in the civilisations of India, China, Africa, and countless other societies across the globe. It is time to recognise that what we often label as the "New World" is built upon the foundations of ancient and remarkable civilisations. The intellectual and cultural contributions of the non-Western world are not relics of the past but living, breathing entities that continue to shape our global reality. The traditional Western-centric view, with its often monopolistic control over global media and narratives, must evolve. In an era of multipolar politics and increasing global interconnectedness, the perspective of the 12% can no longer dominate our understanding of the world. Instead, we must strive for a more comprehensive, inclusive worldview that embraces the diversity of human experience represented by the 88%. This shift is not about replacing one dominant narrative with another. Instead, it's an invitation to the 12% to join the broader human family - to participate in and contribute to a more holistic understanding of our shared humanity. Doing so opens ourselves to possibilities for happiness, progress, and mutual understanding. The path forward is not perpetuating outdated power #structures or promoting divisive ideologies. Instead, our future happiness and the well-being of coming generations depend on our ability to synthesise diverse worldviews, learn from one another, and celebrate the full spectrum of human culture and wisdom. By embracing this 88% perspective, we do not diminish Western civilisation's achievements. Instead, we place them within a broader context of human achievement, creating a more balanced and nuanced understanding of our shared history and potential #future. As we move forward, let us strive to create a world where no single cultural narrative dominates, where racism and propaganda become relics of the past, and where the intellectual and artistic contributions of all peoples are recognised and valued. This is the promise of the 88% perspective - a more inclusive, harmonious, and genuinely global human experience.

I've stumbled across this excellent conversation whilst researching for our new Aspire Programme for new or aspiring leaders. It includes two awesome thought leaders, authors and communicators Simon Sinek & Charles Duhigg. They discuss Charles' book 'Supercommunicators' [great book btw] and how we need meet the other person where they're at in our conversation. For example, there is nothing more annoying than when we 'just want to be heard' and the other person jumps to fix..... grrrr. If you're looking to enhance your communication in any way, this is a great listen. https://lnkd.in/dhWV7zhe #communication #buildingrelationships ##supercommunicator

Happy New Year 🎉 A quarter of the way into the century 😱 If you’re on here reading this post on 1st January, you must be 👀for something. Instead of looking, what about creating ⚙️? CREATING 2025. Over the next week or two, reflect on: ❓ What is the difference you want to make in the world in 2025? ❓ What do you anticipate might be challenging this year? ❓ What joys, achievements, wins, new connections and deepened relationships do you want to create? ❓ How do you want to grow over the year? ❓ Who do you want to BE in 2025? 🤔 This isn’t about changing yourself, or not being authentic. It’s about being the best version of yourself, the parts of you that you want to leverage, the parts you want to play up ⬆️ and those you want to dial down ⬇️ ? The year is going to pass whether you’re intentional about how you want it to go or not. And in terms of the difference you want to make in the world – this can be globally 🌍 , or it can be in your immediate world or both. You get to decide your impact 👊 . ❓How often do you reflect 🪞 on yourself? ❓What’s one big goal 🥅 you’re determined to achieve in 2025? Message me at [email protected] if you want support this year to achieve that goal. Picture: Anne visiting a castle in Japan earlier in 2024

How I helped a corporate economist appear on BBC1, and stay on message in just sixty minutes. Eric spoke live on the BBC's Budget Programme. His challenge… How do you stay on message? How to avoid embarrassing himself? And how can you tell a story in just five minutes? Here's what Eric discovered. Don't repeat the Prime Minister's silly "definition of working people." The first step was showing Eric how to reject or respond to questions. Simple role-play introduced Eric to HOW to manage questions and… How to take control of the media conversation. Armed with that formula… Eric needed step two…a Point of View. Media speakers must have something to say. We discussed his take on the economy. Eric spoke about his company's strategic objectives for the interview. And what critical messages his stakeholders MUST hear. Then, and only then, could Eric prepare three specific messages. Lastly, two crucial points… There's a proven way to start and end an interview. The start invites people to listen. While the end rams home your message. Eric got to work designing, yes, designing… Fifteen words to kick off his interview And fifteen words to end his comments. If you're an executive and want to know how the M.A.P. formula can help you, DM the word MEDIA, and let's have a conversation. Alford

What happens when strategy and culture are misaligned? For me, this was one of many compelling insights from our conversation with Dr Dieter Veldsman (Phd) on 🎙️ Impactful Conversations with Glenn Wallis DCM. Over 40 minutes, we dove deep into strategy and the critical role you play as leaders in a delicate intersection of providing clarity and navigating organisational + team culture. Some of the powerful takeaways from our discussion include: ✅ Simplicity is the secret weapon – complex strategies rarely succeed ✅ A strategy without cultural alignment is destined to falter ✅ People are at the heart of strategy – engagement and focus on what’s happening for your people within it are non-negotiable ✅ Execution is everything – vision without action is just wishful thinking. Dr Dieter also shed light on why strategy must be a living entity – integrating vision, people, and systems to enable both adaptability and execution. This episode is packed with actionable insights on balancing long-term vision with the agility to evolve dynamically, all while addressing the cultural challenges that make or break strategic success. 🚀 If you're a leader or founder looking to create real, sustainable value, this is a must-listen. Give it a listen at the link in the comments below 👇 🏃♂️ Stay until 37:15 for actionable insights to help you achieve your ambitious goals this year! ❓PS: What’s the biggest challenge you’re facing in executing strategy with your team?

How can we help our society become more sustainably conscious consumers of fashion? How can we help raise awareness of more environmentally sensitive ways of consuming and recycling our clothes? Two questions I enjoyed discussing with Joseph Mountain, Founder and Director of Future Fashion Fair, a Community Interest Company on a mission to drive the rapid advancement of conscious consumption in the fashion industry while actively contributing to building a circular economy. Joe also reflects on the value of focus and maintaining high standards as key lessons on his leadership journey For further details and full video see links in the comments #businessowner #learning #results

https://lnkd.in/ee7CYZnn If you are interested and curious as to what happens when those at senior levels of leadership attempt to protect their reputations and that of the organisation then this is a must watch. Why don't we learn! One journalist speaking "truth to power" within the documentary sums it up perfectly. If they had been honest and open from the onset of this particular tragedy then reputations would not only have been protected but actually been enhanced. It takes courage to be honest! The Post Office, the National Police Air Service and others are examples of organisations where lessons were simply not learnt. Which organisation will be next? If we do seriously want solutions then we first need to properly define what talent is and how we then select, align and support the right talent into leadership roles where their innate ability can safely deal and cope with the complexity required. It's time to learn! Humanixs

📢 Speaking Page ✅ What Helps Get Scary Things Done? It's the advice I give time-and-time-again to clients on public speaking ⏭ Attention Out - focus on the people in front of you. ⏭ Impact Led - put the impact you want to have front and centre. ⏭ Be You - you're good at you, you know you, relax and enjoy it. I'd love to impact more leaders and teams on a mission to dream bigger, play nicer, create more value and sleep better at night. To have that impact, it makes sense to speak to more people, tell my story, share what I've learned from my international career and business - so far - and come away with tonnes more ideas, stories and experiences to pass on again. So I'm setting an intention to speak more because the last piece of advice, in getting good at something like public speaking: ⏭ Time and Attention - the more you do it, the better you get! Yes public speaking, and putting yourself out there in general (like this) can feel scary, but the more you do it, the more you enjoy it too, and I'm feeling that enjoyment more and more these days (even if the nerves never go away!) I've shared a few varied examples of keynotes, away days and team workshops I've delivered over the last two years here: https://lnkd.in/dEC_fQTv And I'd love to reach more good folk; to share my unique perspectives on leadership, personal impact and/or sustainable business, and to provide 💡 moments for your team, network, and industry that inspire positive action and powerful impact. ⁉ My Ask for Support: What team, network or industry do YOU know who'd benefit from a bespoke powerful session with me? #leadpowerfulimpact #leadership #business #coach #impact #bcorp #bthechange #positiveleadership #sustainablebusiness #publicspeaking

In life, we're surrounded by networks—some lift us up, while others drag us down. Let's talk about the Poverty Network: a trio of characters—doomsayers, doubters and distractors. The Doomsayer: Always predicting the worst, they thrive on spreading fear and uncertainty. Pandemics, lockdowns—you name it, they've got a prediction for it. The Doubter: Constantly questioning your abilities, they'll tell you that you're not cut out for success. Like a small lion, they say, how can you rule the jungle? The Distractor: The worst of the bunch, they'll do anything to divert your focus. Whether it's governments, politicians, or influencers, they're all after their own agenda, not your success. To surge forward, you need laser-like focus. Cut out the distractions, silence the doubters, and ignore the doomsayers. Keep your eyes on the prize, and success will follow. Remember, success isn't a sprint—it's a marathon. People often overestimate what they can achieve in a year but underestimate what they can accomplish in a decade. Stay focused, stay determined, and watch yourself soar to new heights! Keep pushing forward, keep that focus and watch as your dreams become reality. https://lnkd.in/dVnKmHts #SurgeForward #DefeatPovertyNetwork #StayFocused
