We are excited to announce the publication of a case study on behalf of South Yorkshire Pensions Authority. Pensions for Purpose now manages the Supporters, Adopters, and case studies of The Impact Investing Principles for Pensions, as well as reviewing annual evidence from investment consultants and fiduciary managers on their progress. Our case study series showcases best practices and the impact journey of Adopters. This study highlights SYPA’s focus on place-based investing, aligning with the Government’s Levelling-up agenda. They collaborate with advisers to integrate impact into their asset allocation and are piloting place-based reporting. SYPA also partners with Border to Coast and the Local Authority Pension Fund Forum to drive their impact goals, tracking portfolio emissions and conducting scenario analysis to stay on course. The Chancellor’s inclusion of social impact investment in the 2024 budget, is a hugely significant one. As part of its plan to rebuild Britain, Labour has committed to developing a social impact investment vehicle, led by the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, working with DCMS, to support the Government to deliver its mission. We welcome further collaboration between socially motivated investors, the voluntary sector and Government to tackle complex social problems. The Bank of England Cost Benefit Analysis Panel has just published its Annual Report - https://lnkd.in/eqfFVR8g. This sets out the work the panel has undertaken since it was set up in July 2024 and its engagement with the Prudential Regulatory Authority (PRA) and the Bank. One of the important differences between the role of the Bank's CBA Panel (which scrutinises CBAs of the Bank's and PRA's regulatory proposals) and that of the Regulatory Policy Committee (which scrutinises CBAs of government regulatory proposals) is that the CBA Panel does not evaluate or scrutinise options or alternatives that might be considered by the Bank, while the Government's Better Regulation Framework (BRF) https://lnkd.in/er4zCpyE has the scrutiny and analysis of alternative policy options at the core of the RPC's role. The BRF's focus on robust analysis of the costs and benefits of different policy options, aims to ensure that regulation is only used only where alternative, non-regulatory approaches, will either not achieve the desired policy outcomes or will achieve them at disproportionate cost. The Pensions Regulator's latest annual funding statement shows significant improvements in scheme funding levels. 🙌 However, Graham Newman is asking the question "now what"? 🤔 The funding statement categorises schemes into three groups based on their funding status. For well-funded schemes, options include buyout or run-on, with a caution to ensure run-on is best for members. Those below technical provisions need urgent action to reduce risk and reach full funding. We’re really proud to have supported The Centre for Social Justice on such an important report. As part of our mission to make credit work better for all we have been strong supporters of their debt unit for many years. During that time, we’ve seen first-hand how damaging council tax debt can be for people in vulnerable situations. We welcome the CSJ’s decision to focus on these issues in their new report. We strongly support their calls to: - Put the enforcement conduct board on a statutory footing - Amend the legislation around council tax to ensure better treatment for people in debt - Stop using enforcement agents for people with a council tax reduction Council tax debt can be a minefield, but higher standards and fairer collection could make a world of difference. 🌟 Positive news for financial inclusion and social investment 🌟 We’re pleased that the government has reconfirmed the allocation of dormant assets in England to support financial inclusion and social investment. This is positive for CDFIs who are supporting financially excluded communities in the following ways: Increased access to fair finance: CDFIs have benefitted from some of the dormant asset funding. These resources have helped CDFIs to develop their products, improve efficiencies and as a result reach people that traditional lenders often overlook. Strengthening the social investment ecosystem: This funding reaffirms the government’s commitment to social investment, enabling CDFIs and other social economy organisations to scale their impact and promote a more inclusive economy.
