Ltd Directors - is this month the perfect time to update your employee contracts? If your increasing employee's pay in April, then yes it’s ideal to review your employee’s contract. We recommend you check that all of the clauses are still relevant to what happens in practise. Add in any new pay rates and detail around training that you offer or what hours you expect your employees to work. Then announce any changes to your employees before you issue the contract so they are expecting the revised contract and it doesn’t come as a surprise. Always ask for a signed contract back so you have their acceptance. How can we prevent long term sickness absence?   There is no silver bullet to prevent people being sick and there will always be a level of sickness absence in any company.  But there are definitely things which employers can do to help to limit the amount of time people take off sick.   But none of these is a quick fix. They are all steps in a much larger project to reach the goal of reduced sickness absence (which in itself brings greater productivity).   Some of the steps which might bring you nearer to reducing absence are:   💙 Understanding the reasons for sickness absence   💙 Training your managers in supporting their teams   💙 Creating a positive work environment 💙 Listening to your employees These things are all projects in their own right and you might want to get some professional HR help to get started.

Nominations can be made by anyone who has experienced the positive impact of this person - a colleague, manager, mentor, coach, lecturer, tutor.   Examples of what judges will be looking for include: a piece of great work and its practical application within the organisation; and/or creative and innovative approaches to the delivery of their work; and/or their commitment to CPD and how they apply this learning in their role; and/or ways in which they have influenced others in the workplace; and/or why you already know that this person is a people leader of the future There are no hard and fast guidelines for this category - just showcase your nominee in the best way you can! WHAT MAKES ME ANY DIFFERENT TO ANY OTHER HR PROFESSIONAL? I've been sharing what retained HR services look like when working with me in posts over the last couple of weeks. Yet why choose me when there are so many others 'out there'? Well, I suppose it's 'me' in a nutshell and also what I bring to the table in terms of experience and expertise. I also do the work required on time and on budget. My work ethic is strong.   If you don't know, I have more than 38 years’ of experience in HR and people management both as an employee and self-employed. I had a long career with Royal Mail before striking out on my own. With all new clients, when I onboard them, I carry out a detailed analysis of the current state of their HR compliance, policies and procedures through an initial audit. This creates a base line for our future work together - and this picture will vary depending on the type of business, what was or was not in place before and also in line with recent changes in the business. I will then move on to create policies and contracts, relevant to them and their business structure, to ensure legal compliance. This will always be tailored to a client's specific needs and the needs of the law. I provide a comprehensive administrative service with personal completion of all requirements – not just the provision of templates which could easily be downloaded from the internet. For retained clients, I offer unlimited remote advice on the telephone or via email every month. Also in the case of emergency which has arisen suddenly and needs to be acted upon. In these rare circumstances, I offer a guarantee of that advice being given the same day.  For some clients (and others who are interested though at a higher cost) I offer a range of employment law training modules for line managers who need to know and understand the law, what's coming up and what needs to be planned ready for changes in the coming months. At the moment, outside of work, I'm keeping an eye on the football! As anyone who knows me knows I'm a bit of a fan! Tonight I'll be hoping that England do well in their match against Denmark!
