A step in the right direction, but c'mon...how difficult do they need to make this? The lemmings of the #UK institutional investment sector want a more globally competitive domestic market but insist on tying the hands of the boards, preventing them from competing globally. It's not that hard - The Investment Association should simply instruct these boards to find the best and most experienced talent available and provide competitive, well-aligned pay packages across both executive directors and non-executive directors. 📣 Record number of firms comply with #PrivateEquity financial reporting The British Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (BVCA) alongside the Private Equity Reporting Group (PERG) today launched the 17th series of the annual Private Equity Annual Public Reports, which found 90 portfolio companies to be in scope of the Walker Guidelines in 2024. The Walker Guidelines, which are unique to the UK, are a world-leading framework for transparency in large private equity-backed businesses and are comparable to reporting requirements of the FTSE 250 companies. Following several months of consultation with the industry and wider stakeholders, the Guidelines were refreshed this year to enable greater levels of transparency expected of firms and hold them to a higher standard than ever before. Changes include increased disclosure on DE&I, principal risks and uncertainties, and environmental matters. Some of the key takeaways from this year’s reports were: 🧩 Productivity: Gross Value Added (GVA) per employee increased by 3.0% per annum since acquisition, underscoring private equity’s focus on productivity and value creation. Over the past 10 years, portfolio companies reported YoY growth in GVA per employee of 3.8% which is higher than the average growth for the ONS private sector benchmark at 2.7% 💼 Employment: Under PE ownership this has increased by 1.8% per annum since acquisition. 🕰️Long Term: The average timeframe of PE investment in the portfolio companies is 6.0 years As this year’s reports have demonstrated, private equity continues to be an economic partner for growth, providing a stable source of investment for businesses across the country. The Takeover Panel must go! The Takeover Code once served a purpose but now stands in the way, giving too much agency to board directors whose interests are not aligned with those of shareholders. This is one of the reasons #UK #equity #markets trade at a perennial discount to the U.S. Relax the Code, and let bids go to shareholders for votes- and you will see that more often than not, the owners want exits.
