We need to tear down the paywall and give Premier League football back to the country. Liberal Democrats would stand up to money grabbing broadcasters and Premier League clubs and ensure no fans are priced out of football. ▶️ The Lib Dems said its manifesto would promise to put 10 Premier League games back on free-to-air channels like the BBC and ITV, as well as 10 games from the Scottish Championship and 20 games from the English Football League, such as the Championship. The party told the BBC to implement their plans they would amend the Broadcasting Act 1996, which gives the secretary of state for digital, culture, media and sport the power to draw up a list of sporting events which are in the "national interest". Broadcast rights to these events must be offered to the main free-to-air terrestrial broadcasters on “fair and reasonable terms”. This would require the majority of MPs to back a change to the law. Can we all just agree that Olympic lifts (and variations of), are great for developing power, but whether or not an athlete does them is dependent on individual factors, specific to the athlete and S&C coach? Whilst noting that there are also lots of other great ways to develop power. This article from Ben Dinnery tells an appalling story of injury in the EPL. Here are my thoughts. The rise of gross strength testing, mobility training, and velocity-based training are key contributors to the increased rate of injury. It has literally created the perfect storm for increased injury rates. 1) We measure gross force data that literally tells us nothing. Yet, each club has doubled and tripled down on this misleading technology. Take the Nordic Hamstring Test: which muscle contributes what amount of force to the total measured outcome? Considering there are nine muscles contributing, the likelihood of an accurate measurement is nearly zero. 2) We increase ranges of motion without taking the time to increase the tissue force tolerance in this newfound range. With ground reaction forces exceeding five times body weight during deceleration, you must ensure you have high force-generating capabilities in these newfound ranges. 3) We train athletes to give up when they get fatigued. The majority of injuries occur during the later stages of the game when the athletes are fatigued. I’d be happy to help any one of these clubs reduce their injury rates by 90% in the first year. Reflecting on the ongoing Olympic swimming trials has reminded me of a particular parallel between my swimming career and a challenge faced in HCP events.    Let's call it the Starting Block Challenge.   Just as the most daunting aspect of swimming involved mentally preparing for 5:30 AM practices, stepping up onto the starting block, and plunging into a cold pool to begin each day <-> the primary hurdle at HCP events isn't initiating conversations or approaching directors - it's taking that initial step and showing up.    The proverbial starting block.   Once engaged, the rest naturally falls into place. In swimming, once you're in the water, training becomes second nature. Similarly, at HCP events and reverse expos, initial anxieties dissipate once the first conversation begins. Platforms like HCP facilitate seamless connections and enjoyable interactions with industry peers.   Let's embrace these challenges, defeat the starting block, dive in wholeheartedly, and create impactful connections that make a significant difference!   PIC for proof that I consistently defeated the 5:30 AM Starting Block Challenge at my Alma Mater.

Question for S&C coaches… Name one exercise that’s a must for all athletes, from a specific sport? It doesn’t exist - I could find a successful athlete in that sport that hasn’t ever done that exercise. There are no absolutes in S&C. It’s highly contextual and there are many ways to achieve the desired outcomes. #strengthandconditioning #strengthandconditioningcoach

I've been preparing a research paper that details how our chosen molecular markers match the timing of the best jump performance in football players. A paper by Owens et al 2023 identified the difference training time makes on squad performance in elite football. They found that morning match preparation sessions had better performance outcomes than sessions held in the afternoon. Here are my take homes: The majority of this squad was composed of players who each performed better in the morning than they did in the afternoon This may not reflect every squad, which will have different player compositions (in terms of best performance times) and therefore each squad may have different optimum training times 11:37 in the morning, while better than 16:14, may not be the best time of day for the squad analyzed The authors controlled for fatigue between sessions, which were over different days, but this means it took 28 days to collect the data Finding the right time can significantly affect the overall squad performance The ability to profile individual players quickly and simply to find the optimum time of day to train could lead to overall squad performance gains

At the time of writing this AFC Bournemouth are sitting 10th in the Premier League. That is right….10th. A sleepy town on the south coast. We are just two places behind Man Utd who are in 8th place. Now you could argue that Man Utd are having one of their worst seasons in a decade but that is neither here nor there, this is about Bournemouth. Bournemouth have beaten and drawn with Man Utd this season, they have staged the greatest comeback in Premier League history returning from 4-0 down at half time to Luton, they are looking to finish in the top half of the premier league table for the first time since 2016. All this with a group of players that are NOT your household names, none are on £500k per week and none are on the front page of the papers (for the wrong reasons). How has this happened? A lot of people suggest that the manager, Iraola, is to do with the success, some say the star striker Dominic Solanke is the reason, others the culture of the back office staff from the top down being instilled in the club. The biased Chiropractor would say it’s to do with the back room medical team reducing the injuries and keeping them fit, joking. When I was working as an intern at the club back in 2013/14 they were making advances in the medical field to try and reduce injuries but also get their players back from injuries quicker. They had a clinic in Milan, they would send the players here for platelet replacement therapy which at the time was an advanced technique to speed up healing. Bournemouth have continued to invest in their medical team and their technology to help their team perform on the pitch. A lot can be said for this, at West Chiropractic we continually invest in team training but also we invest in new proven technology that has a lot of scientific research and evidence behind it.
