A relevant question beyond education solution provision, but with the UK Higher Education crisis front of mind, we have a paradox on our hands: needing to maintain stability in our business, while positively disrupting and innovating. How do we rise to the challenge? This delicate balance requires acceptance of the new normal, as well as a resistance to the allure of novelty for the sake of it. Innovation is not about novelty, it's about adding value. A few lessons I've learned along the way: 1️⃣ Understanding the best ideas often come from the collective rather than the individual. Fostering a culture where everyone's voice is heard with mutual respect and trust is the foundation for any successful business 2️⃣ While inclusivity is important, teams need to be kept small for agility. Create a framework for innovation that cuts through red tape with agreed parameters for experimentation and risk 3️⃣ Prioritise outside-in thinking, ensuring you're speaking to your customers and truly understand their problems before developing solutions 4️⃣ Always make the time to engage others in the process of decision-making as appropriate. Strategic buy-in is critical, especially in times of disruption and uncertainty. #LeadershipLessons

Attrition rates of primary school teachers DOUBLED from 2015 - 2022! How can we help teachers? Not that the majority of us aren't already aware of the crisis, but Bett Global and HP's white paper has some scary numbers in it. Put that number below 👇 alongside a recent OECD - OCDE paper that puts 'Too many lessons' and 'Keeping up with changing requirements' two of the top causes that cause a negative relationship between teachers and their profession. - 73% 'Too many lessons' causes a negative relationship - 58% say that 'Keeping up with changing requirements' causes a negative These numbers tell me that teachers are just generally exhausted and 'enough is enough'. What Aspects of Teaching Should Remain Human? AI is revolutionizing education, if anything it feels like a tsunami of change taking place, but in my opinion it is largely making us rethink things that were probably less than ideal and needed to be challenged. While it may be uncomfortable for instructors to reinvent aspects of how they teach, there remain plenty of unique aspects of teaching that should remain human. While AI can enhance learning through personalized tutoring, instant feedback, and adaptive learning tools, human teachers should lean into their ability to engage and motivate students, understand their emotions, and foster meaningful connections - all of us can probably remember at least one teacher that truly inspired us! My hope is that AI gives everyone the time and agency to focus on being THAT teacher! #Education #AIinEducation #EdTech #FutureOfEducation

What are the implications of the European Accessibility Act (EAA) for L&D? It's been a busy few weeks at eLaHub with some fantastic opportunities to meet face-to-face with other practitioners passionate about accessibility. One of the highlights was the JISC event on the EAA and what it means for Higher Education and the edtech sector. It was a great opportunity to explore the opportunities around the EAA and the uncertainties that still surround the legislation and its implementation. Thanks to John X Kelly, Sarah Lewthwaite, Huw Alexander and Kate Sonka for their enlightening talks and to Kellie Mote and Jisc for hosting us. My key takeaway was that there definitely needs to be more research and concrete advice for the L&D sector - particularly for workplace learning - since the legislation impacts both the private and public sectors. At eLaHub we've taken the first steps in securing a partner to help us with this research. An interesting read from 2021 but more relevant than ever, DfE in their own business case modelling found that outcomes in FE in terms of higher earnings premium 3-5 years post qual: Level 2 Qual - 9% Level 3 Qual - 16% Level 2 Apprenticeship - 12% Level 4/5 Apprenticeship - 22% The outcome for the Gov't is a lifetime of additional earnings and tax receipts for HMT, the skills gap gets smaller, and the economy ultimately benefits. These are averages, here in the North East I suspect the %'s are far higher. Roll on the Labour spending review... 🤞

It’s an argument that misunderstands basic principles about (1) technology, (2) education and (3) assessment.'
