Having moved to the UK three months ago, I can attest to my colleagues’ Tunde Olanrewaju and Andrew Goodman‘s findings in this excellent report: that the ambitious growth happening in many UK companies is not yet fully reflected in the stock market.    They delve into the behaviours of the UK’s top 500 companies – only a third of which are listed – to determine how the top performers are driving growth, breaking it down into a code of ‘systematic ambition’.     There are great findings here for UK business leaders seeking to maximise their organisations’ growth potential in the coming years. Where does the FTSE100 CEO's personality differ most from the general population? Our analysis of language used by FTSE100 CEOs on earnings calls reveals fascinating differences from the population as a whole. FTSE100 CEOs exhibit distinct traits in the areas of Cooperation, Melancholy, and Emotional Awareness. * Cooperation (Average 72nd percentile): CEOs prioritise others' feelings more than the general population. * Melancholy (Average 29th percentile): CEOs are less prone to melancholic feelings. * Emotional Awareness (Average 29th percentile): CEOs are less connected to their emotions compared to the general population. When we combine personality insights with the social dynamics of leaders language, we see CEOs significantly differ from the general population in Outward Focus, Inward Focus, and Affiliation, emphasising the importance of external focus and affiliation with others for effective leadership. * Outward Focus (Average 90th percentile): CEOs prioritise entities other than themselves. * Inward Focus (Average 8th percentile): CEOs have minimal focus on themselves. * Affiliation (Average 96th percentile): CEOs exhibit a strong need for affiliation with others. While personality traits remain relatively constant over time, social dynamics evolve, allowing leaders to develop and enhance these elements of their leadership.
